Cel p1298 & p1456

This is for a 2002 Honda Civic LX, Manual Tranny.

The other day my CEL came on, and I got two codes in this order:
P1456 EVAP leak
P1298 Electric load detector high

I was told by my mechanic that it is probably just a loose gas cap, so we fixed it and cleared the code.

About 40 miles of driving later, it came right back on with the same two codes.

I've seen numerous posts about the P1456 saying its a loose gas cap and that it'll go away on its own once you've tightened it, and that isn't happening for me.

I've seen a few posts on the P1298 issue saying to just replace the whole ELD in the under-hood fusebox, but I'm concerned about the two showing up together.

Are they related? I feel like they almost have to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

You'd be surprised what changing the ELD will erase. Regardless you need to change it.

For the P1456 there are 5 pages of diagnosis, I am way to lazy to type all that. Especially when you can download it here: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...e-updated.html

Thanks for the input, since I see that the ELD is relatively cheap, I'll have it replaced and see what happens. I'll keep you updated.

Re: Cel p1298 & p1456

ELD: P/N 38255-S5A-003. If you just ask them for the ELD they will try to sell you the entire fusebox ($250). You have to ask for it by part number. Good luck and post back results.
