My 04 Civic 5-speed has started making a pretty strange sound when it gets to around 3000 rpms in 1st and 2nd gear. Doesn't really happen in 3rd or higher. It's kind of hard to describe the sound but it changes from a lower reving sound to a higher one, almost like a grinding, right about the 3000 mark. Its not gradual at all. Pretty much just switches sounds at this point.

Also, I was looking at possibly getting some sort of muffler silencer or something that will give the car a deeper sound than what you get out of the stock parts. Is DC Sports a good brand for this sort of thing? Any recommendations?

I had the same problem with my 04 civic (5spd manual). I drained the tranny oil and flushed it and refilled after it was cleaned out the noise went away. hope it helps.

yeah around the 1min mark there was a "knocking sound" almost. That was what mine sounded like until the tranny was drained and cleaned.

Just make sure you get new washers! I hope I'm not too late with that advice....
And check the condition of the fluid. Watch out for any metal shavings.
