02 Civic Si cat problem help

I got a 2002 Civic Si and its been throwing a CEL P0420 cat ineffeciency. I'd like to get a new cat converter but I cant afford paying over 1200 just for the cat and new 02 sensors. Universal cats are illegal in Ca. so whats the best option for me? Oh yea and my smog check is soon. Thx

Re: 02 Civic Si cat problem help

I replaced just my primary O2 sensor after my 02 EX threw the 0420 code. The code did not come back, however I did not have to go through a smog check.

Re: 02 Civic Si cat problem help

1. Replace the sensors first. It probably isn't the problem but, you're gonna need new ones anyways.

2.Check every craigslist within driving distance EVERY DAY. Patience is the key. Look for wrecked SI's for your years ('02-'05). It took me 3 months but, I found a local that put a turbo on his and sold me his whole exhaust for $75.

3. Try the for sale/wanted section here and other sites (Honda-Tech, 7th Gen Civic, etc).

4. Bite the bullet and pay the price.

5. Find a dealer with that model and go up there after closing and ****** it from that one. Just kidding, don't try this at home.

FYI: It's federal law that used cats can't be bought or sold. That's why there are no cats on junkyard cars. That and they have precious metals in them.
