MPG Fail.

So, I am having a problem with my 2002 honda civic sedan (AT).
-Every other fill up i use fuel injector cleaner.
-My tires are constantly kept at 32psi.
-My spark plugs were changed at 100,000 miles to NGK iridium.
-Catalytic converter, o2 sensor, and TDC sensor all replaced (since my catalytic gave up about a few months ago)
-Transmission Fluid Changed summer 2010
-117,000 Miles
-17in rims
-Oil and Oil Filter is changed every 3,500 with Castrol Synthetic Blend and Fram tough guard
-Air filter is clean

So my Problem is, I only get 230 miles to every fill up. And my car holds roughly 11 gallons right before the light turns on. Which is about 23MPG.

What other things could I do to raise this number because i have seen everywhere that people get up to about 300miles.

Thanks for your help

Re: MPG Fail.

23 mpg isnt terrible in the city, but you can get higher changing your driving habits. also the 17 inch rims pop out at me. go back to lightweight 14s or 15s for best mileage and better acceleration. on the highway, you should be getting at least 34mpg if not higher. also winter mileage is much worse than summer for alot of reasons you cant control.

Re: MPG Fail.

My rims feel just about the same weight as my steelies when i carry them, its not much of a difference its kyowa lightweight. Also I'm running 215/45R17. I don't push my car hard, but it also feels as if I am losing power. I drive 50% freeway and 50% city so i feel like it should be higher right?

Re: MPG Fail.

Could just be carbon build-up. Try seafoaming it.

Re: MPG Fail.

Do not seafoam it. seafoam breaks off big chunks of carbon build up in your motor and can make your engine fail cause the big chunks can get stuck and starve your motor from no oil pumping through it essentially your motor can eat itself if you put seafoam in it. that's pretty much the worse thing that can happen if you use seafoam and it rarely happens but i wouldn't take that risk.

theres another product its called auto-rx and it works a lot better and does not break off big chunks but it slowly cleans out the carbon build up.

Re: MPG Fail.

You aren't supposed to use the entire container in on application. 1/3 of it in a vacuum line and maybe some in the gas tank should be enough. I've never heard of anything like that happening from using SF.

Re: MPG Fail.

I agree I've never heard of anything like that happening with seafoam. I've used it on all my vehicles and they have never had problems after application.

I think that it might be your driving habits that are causing your MPG problem.

Re: MPG Fail.

The only thing I've heard to be wary of is if you beat the **** out of your car and neglect maintenance, which may be a reason why they suggested auto-rx.

You can have carbon build up in just a couple thousand miles through no fault of your own. It even happens to some brand new vehicles.
