2001 Honda Civic transmission compatibility

Please help me. My daughters 2001 tx apparentley has died. We found a used transmission from an 03 lx w 55k miles. The guy says it isnt compatable w the 01. All research says it is. What transmissions are we able to look for?

any 01-05 auto trans should fit just fine. its better to try and find a newer 04-05 actually since they have fewer miles. this generation of auto has alot of problems and defects that were never fixed. so unfortunately the new (used) one you put in will likely develop the same problem as the old one after a while.

What about swapping a manual transmission into it. Are the seventh gen 5 speed tranny's as bad as the automatics?

they have their problems too, and its alot of work once you find all the swap parts. many shops will not even touch it because it falls under 'custom' work.

Would swapping to manual be a better investment versus swapping to another automatic? Or are they just as likely to have something go wrong with them?
