02 civic auto stalls no codes
Ok so I have been going through a lot of forum posting but still can't pinpoint the exact spot so before I start doing anything figured I'd post my experience. Sorry for how long this post will be, but hopefully all the information will help in getting to the exact problem. When I say stalled in this thread I mean I lost all power in gas pedal but if i pulled over to the side, after a extremely low idle and some shaking, the rpm return to normal and it is fine to drive.
So randomly my car will lose all power and stall. Normally it only happens when the car is still cold, however, it has happened when the car was technically warm. What I mean by that is that I drove to the store, got out, came back later, drove off, and car stalled even tho temp gauge was at a decent temperature. I also, sometimes, get a hesitation when the auto tranny shifts gears. Feels like a big pull from the rear.
Another thing I have noticed is when i start the car for the first time in the morning I am able to blip the rpm for a second. Meaning when the rpm is at 1k, if i hit the accelerator a little and raise it to 1.5k it will freeze there for a couple of seconds.
I have a 3130 obd2 scanner which gives me the volt reading. I noticed that the o2sb1s1 sensor fluctuates a lot between 0-1v which it is suppose however the o2sb1s2 sensor stays above .500 at idle. I thought that indicated a lazy sensor but I used the scanner on my dads pt cruiser and his was the same reading. Do we both have bad o2 sensors or am I not reading it right.
What I have been reading is that cleaning the IACV, EGR, and throttle body, as well as getting a tune up would probably fix it. Well i got the tune up and cleaned the throttle body and still have the problem. Going to try clean IACV when I get a chance but I am not very experience with the wrench however I am going to try. The tune up didn't include the fuel filter because pepboys said you can only get the part from honda.
With all that information, I was hoping someone more experienced could pinpoint it and say what the problem is. If it makes any difference I have a AEM SRI. The filter is brand new K&N. Also a aftermarket exhaust unknown brand because it came with the car. Still stock headers I believe because the shield is still on it.

Re: 02 civic auto stalls no codes
mileage? Problems could be tranny related.
O2 sensor readings are normal. Secondary sensor is showing that the cat (and thereby the primary sensor) is working fine.
Clean the IACV. Check for vacuum leaks and check fuel pressure.

140k but i had the tranny rebuilt. Weird thing is this problem started ocurring right after i got it rebuilt. They blew it off saying it could be a dirty filter. But what could that mean? I thought the o2 sensors are suppose to fluctuate between 0-1v but the 2nd one only stays above .500. They did tell me they had to replace a sensor so my check engine light for torque converter would go away but i dont know what they changed.
Re: 02 civic auto stalls no codes
May have not re-built it right.
A dirty air filter can lead to stalling, so can a clogged fuel filter or failing fuel pump. I assume the air filter was changed at tune-up so, check for vacuum leaks and check fuel pressure.
Primary O2 sensor fluctuates, secondary O2 sensor doesn't. If it does then you have a bad primary sensor or cat. From those readings your fine. I can't be any clearer on this.

Have you had a fuel injector cleaning lately?
I have been dealing with very similar problems with my 1988 Acura Integra.
The problem in my situation is the fuel injectors are leaking.
Inspect your injectors where the plastic part mates to the metal part of the injector for leaks. Also look for brownish staining below each injector on the intake manifold.
Please note where the leaks are located if you have them.

Re: 02 civic auto stalls no codes
hey guys,
so i got some time to make a video and take some pictures. The pictures are of my engine bay, throttle body, IACV, and injectors so you guys can take a looks see if u see anything out of the ordinary. I was not able to clean my IACV because the hoses are like stuck on so if anyone has ideas how to get them off with cutting them.

The video could be unrelated but maybe it is. It shows how my rpm does a cliff drop from around 2k down to 1k and a slight bounce back. Makes it feel like the car is slowing itself down a little faster then it should.

Re: 02 civic auto stalls no codes
Sorry, didn't see anything in the pics.
Re: 02 civic auto stalls no codes
How old is your cat? A couple years? If you've changed your cat, did you change the sensors? Nowadays cats don't usually last more than 6-8 years. Sensors don't even last that long. Your cat and your sensors are wearing, I wouldn't worry about it until the power and mileage are below your personal threshold. Although you can change the sensors every 60K or so to keep up cat efficiency.

Have you read this: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...e-posting.html Hope it helps.
Re: 02 civic auto stalls no codes
I did read it but my idle is fine according to my scanner. It is very random that this stalling occurs. I want to try some of those fixes but a good amount of them are pretty expensive. I think ill wait til spring, if i still have the car, and start doing things myself. I'll post back up then if something works. Thanks for your help
