POS Governor
Hey is anyone else with an automatic have a problem with their governor? I mean I flying down the highway and when my car gets to about 100-105 it jsut sits there it doesnt get any higher. I have lost so many highway races because of it. I would be beating them then i hit the governor and they would jsut go right on by me. IF anyone else is have this prob and know a way to fix it please help a fellow 2k1 civic driver out.

what do u mean trim level? I mean it takes forever and a day to get up to 115-120 but i have gotten it there too but i mean it took forever. There was once when i ran when i had 100 grade gas and i got it to 130 but that was only once. is there anyway that i can either cancel out my governor or does anyone know any company that i can send it to and get it tuned.
In the EX automatic it just isn't geared for high speeds...
I can get mine up to 120, downhill and with the wind...
Automatics can't go as fast as the sticks....sticks can go about 135 max...

thats odd, i usually put mid grade in the car, and it doesnt take long to goto 130, however, i have never gone faster then that. my old honda toped out at 131, so i am thinking i wont get much faster.
i have an lx auto. and my governor kicked in at like 100-105 mph the other day too! i was sooo pissed cuz i was racing this kid on the highway and my car just like stopped accelerating, im looking at the speedo and it just wouldn't move! i heard though, that the governor is set at the maximum speed that the factory tires are rated for. like, i think the factory tires are s-rated and that only is qualified for something like 100-105 mph, which i guess makes sense. but i got new rims and tires and they are rated for higher than that, i just wish there was a way that we could mess with governor. anyways, sorry for the long post. see ya!

yup your exactly right about the tires/limiter issues, and yes there is a speed limiter on most all cars and a rev limiter, my 94 accord lx auto hit 130 with ease but would'nt go any further, you can remove the Speed Limiter getting your ECU reprogrammed usually cost $200-250 and also gives you more power and lets you hit vtec sooner, find a good shop that will give you a donor so you can drive while yours is getting done.
you get more than just a removed governer, you will get better MPG, more power, hit vtec sooner, and improve your fuel curve through the power band. Also you get more from your mods with a tuned ECU
AUTO TRANNIES are only 4-speed trannies. That's a definite reason. If you are going to be racing your CIVIC an AUTO really wasn't the best decision. AUTO's are built for those of us who sit in traffic all day so our left leg doesn't cramp up and fall off working the clutch every other second, not for racing.
Manual's are 5 - speeds. Thy have more maximum speed.
I wouldn't advise forcing your car past the rev limiter or governor, there's a reason why those things are there.

I have a THULE rack on my EX Row-Your-Own ("with the big rims on it") and the thing will only do 100-105 MAX. Sans the rack and with "skinnies" it will pull past 110 with ease (never topped it out in this configuration though). My 01 LX did about 115-117 (certified with GPS).
removing the revlimit is extremly dumb unless you know what your doing, but the speed limit is fine as long as your tires are good enough. Oh yeah also the Bracket Racers who run 9's in the 1/4mile use auto's, clutches arent the only racers, I have never seen a guy who runs 8-9 sec use a Clutch. Oh yeah automatic gear ratio tend to be longer, a good setup for Turbo on the highway My 3rd gear in my 94 accord lx auto went all the way to 110mph before it hit 6700rpm cutoff then my 4th gear would go to 130mph but my governer wouldnt let it go higher. I was only at about 5500rpm in 4th at 130 so I still had plenty of gear left.

you shouldnt be racing on public highways
Hey accord just curious in which state you live in? Also what is the speed limit on I-5 where you live? Sucks having it be 65 on I-5 here in Oregon, one of the few good things about Arizona is the 75 mph Interstates

<< I must say your all really lucky bunch of drivers. In my country, the legal speed limit is only 90, and i am tallking about km/h. >>
Who said these speeds were legal? 0:-)
I hit 124 before the radar dector went off and we had to slow it down. I would like to see the top speed though.

i only topped it once at 135mph, not that im saying that was smart but i wanted to see what it could do.....still kills me when my boys DX shuts down at 110

Guys it is always not the governor. I thinkour cars officially stop at like 130 or something like that. The problem is horsepower. You need more horses to kick *** at the higher end speeds and the civic just simply doesnt have enough.
i own a 01lx coupe auto, My gov start to hit at about 115 and it takes for ever to get up any faster, my car is stock also exept for the speakers and a new cd player
I own a 2k1 LX Sedan Auto - Yeah, I should have gotten a stick, but oh well. I've gotten her up to I think it was 112 on a 2-lane highway before the govern icked in. It felt like someone tapped on the brakes, bit I didn't look to see what the RPMs were at. I wasn't too happy, since I was running late for work, and the extra speed would have helped, but oh well ..
And I feel sorry for those of you who live in a state that has a 65 MPH speed limit. Here in Montana it's 75 - but with all the damn potholes it's not smart going past 65 anyways, so I still feel your pain ..

i don't know what ya'll have done to your cars but i have a 2k1 ex manual with aem cai, dc stainless 4-1, and dc tcs. i have topped mine out at 138 mph at around 6500 rpm. it took a while but it got there. may be ya'll should try it if you are only hitting 130.
