Wink Timing belt problems? Any ideas would help, thanks

Have a 2001 Civic, got the timing belts replaced last year. Have recently noticed a new noise in my engine like a slight "reurring" when I step on the accelerator. Strangely this only happens when my car has just started for the ride to school then goes away after things warm up. I am loathed to take it to the dealer and ask them what the problem is as they seem to have dollar signs in their eyes with every little thing that needs doing. Also, since my car is no longer under warranty, I am thinking of taking it to a franchised auto-repair shop rather than the very expensive dealership which does n't impress me much. The advisers must be on commission because they try to suggest a lot of work that may or may not be necessary when I go in for an oil change. Any recommendations?

Have you pin-pointed the location of the sound? Have someone rev it in neutral and listen. Did you replace all the belts?

Prodresurgence, Thank you for your help with this. My dealership replaced the timing belt"s" during a routine scheduled maintenance--can you tell me just how many belts need or could need replacing? My Civic is an automatic and I'm hoping it is not something else like the transmission. I have been reading the other posts about engine noises and am a bit overwhelmed with the scope of what could be the problem. It seems to be very similar to the timing belt tensioner adjustment suggested in an earlier post. Does anyone have any recent experiences with this type of repair? The extensive information available on this site is amazing!

OK, there is only one timing belt, the other 2 are to control your power steering and A/C. (you can't see the timing belt is is hidden in plastic housing to protect it.) All you need to do is open the hood with the car OFF and on the drivers side front you will see 2 belts flip them upside down (ribbed side) and look for cracking. If they have a lot of cracks they need to be replaced. With everything out of the way start the car and listen to the motor, you need to find out where the sound is coming from. Its actually pretty rare for the timing belt tensioner to make noise, but hopefully it was replaced by Honda.
