Control arm bushings are shot

So lately I've been hearing loud squeaks coming from the rear. I put it up, and sure enough, the rear control arm bushings are shot. Passenger side is completely gone and drivers side is starting to go.

Do I need to replace the entire control arms, or can the bushings just be replaced? My car has 265k kms so is it worthwhile to just do the whole thing?

The shop gave me a quote of $571 parts+labour+four wheel alignment to replace both arms. They quoted me a price of 132.60 each for the control arms. Anyone know of any place to get them cheaper online?

Thanks

I think you should put new ones. With so many miles I am sure it has some rust on it. If you buy new parts you can replace them yourself as long you do not run into any rusted bolts (I always did dealing with suspension components). I would also replace the rear upper arm as well.

$132 for new control arms is cheap, discounted OEM cost like $170.

This is the website I use to buy all my OEM honda parts.

Have you checked the front control arm bushings, they might have gone as well.

265k miles, may be its time for a new car.

Ashok.

There are no noises coming from the front. The squeak is specifically coming from the rear passenger side.

Also, I think you misread. My car only has 164,000 miles.

And while I do want to upgrade, I'm gonna need a better excuse for a new car than having to invest $600 in the suspension of a car that otherwise has little to no issues. Even if 265k miles were correct, this is a Civic we're talking about, not a Cavalier.

(my car is an 02 coupe)

That IS cheap. You can by the bushings, rent the press kit from autozone or oreilly's and press 'em in yourself for a lot cheaper. Honda and pretty much any parts place is gonna tell ya that it's non-serviceable and you have to buy the whole thing from them so, I say do it yourself. For bushings go to http://www.rockauto.com/

As stated in the other post, have something to cut the bolts off handy. I broke the head off my brand new breaker bar before I cut it off when doing mine. lol

Got mine from the partsbin too and yeah it was good. I have tried buying from rockauto too and was pretty satisfied with the control arm bushing also.
