I have a 2002 Civic that while on vacation today started stalling ,not shifting, running hot and generally running like crap. Also of course the check engine light is on. Any thoughts on what can cause this problem

Gosh man, could be... ANYTHING!

The good news is, with an engine light, the car actually detected a problem! So hookup a code reader (u could fashion a cheapy one with a light bulb), and it would tell you what the problem is. Start from there.

To paraphrase: There's something wrong with your car, it's in limp mode. Put a code reader on it. Autozone has one. Tell us what the code is, we may be able to help.

I have a 2001 honda civic with a SOHC VTEC, and it will start but wont run for more than a couple seconds before it stalls out, could it be that the catalic converter is plugged? The check engine light is not on either, any help would be great
