2001 EX - SRS light on (P1298 code)
2001 EX - SRS light on (P1298 code)
I posted this in reply of existing thread but thought will start a new one with better subject. Will really appreciate for all the help.
Hello all,
I have a Honda Civic EX 2001 and recently the SRS light remain on continuously. For a couple of times, I simply tried to reset the light but it comes back in a couple of weeks.
yesterday I went to Schuks and tried to read the error code and it comes out as P1298. I read the forum and diagnose the ELD and below are what I am seeing.
PIN 1 - 12.XX volts
PIN2 - Gorund (0V)
PIN3 - with ignition on - 4.45 V
PIN3 - With lights on - 4.43 V
PIN3 - with lights and fan on - 4.41V
So seems like the voltage is dropping. Is the drop sufficient? I don't know what else to try. Can somebody suggest?
thanks

Re: 2001 EX - SRS light on (P1298 code)
I have the same problem. Have you found a fix?
I measured:
PIN 1: ~12.5VDC
PIN 2: ground
PIN 3 w/ignition on: ~3.5VDC
PIN 3 w/ignition on and lights on: ~2.8VDC
PIN 3 w/ignition on, lights on, A/C on: ~1.8VDC
I read here http://www.sparkys-answers.com/2009/...eld-fault.html that if the voltage drops, you should replace your ELD. So it seems like you should replace your ELD. As for me, I don't know.
I have a 2002 Honda Civic EX coupe with the SRS light on and a code of P1298.

I had the 1298 code a while back.. kept resetting it, but it would come back randomly.. I replaced the ELD and the code hasn't come back yet.
I think this is the part I used.. I just remember not being able to find it on hodnaautomotriveparts.com looking though the 02 civic ex parts list, and searching these forums for the part number.. $20 plus shipping (so probably $30 shipped) from majestic honda. Took all of 30 minutes to swap out

Re: 2001 EX - SRS light on (P1298 code)
Thanks for the link. Local Honda is charging $38. Not a big deal I guess. I reset my SRS light and it's off now. But I still have the P1298 code. It seems my ELD is working as is should be, considering the voltage drops.
Thanks for the reply.
