broken wheel stud. how to replace? 05 civic ex?

Firestone complete auto care overtightened all of my lug nuts during a recent tire install. They were the last people to have put them on.

6 months later, when I went to remove them, they were on so tight that I had to use a 4 foot breaker bar.

One of the lug nuts, on the drivers side front, snapped off.

I need to replace this. I already bought the replacement stud and nut from Honda. How do I replace this?

Any help is appreciated

The hub has to be removed for replacement of the studs.

The issue with removing the hub is that I will have to press out the hub from the back side of the knuckle assembly.

In doing so, I will more than likely trash the bearing.

I checkd with my dealer and a replacement bearing runs $100.

Does this sound right?

Im tempted to see if I can find a used knuckle - from the junkyard with all studs intact.

I can prob. find one for $50.

... Take it back to Crapstone total care... I would have done it as soon as I could not get the nuts off... I hate car places man they trash more cars than they fix You can try to find a used knuckle. The danger in that is you don't know the condition of the bearing anyway.

I agree its their fault. However, the 'cool' thing to do in the automobile repair industry is to deny your mistake and charge the customer to fix what you broke. Dont know why that is so, but thats how it works.

Get this one, it could be worse:
A roomate of mine took his car in for an auto transmission flush as preventative maintenance. He got his car back and it wouldnt shift gears. He stopped and antifreeze was bubbling out of the transmission dipstick tube!

Well come to find out, they hook their back flush equipment to the auto transmission line fittings that enter the radiator(to keep trans fluid at consistent temp). When reinstalling the transmission line, they overtightened the fitting, cracking it, allowing antifreeze to enter the transmission fluid!

They put him on the hook for $3000 to replace his transmission (and this was just on an 00 ford escort).

He sued the auto repair shop chain. However, it was part of a huge corporation that had its own legal dept.

Their lawyers made it not worth his while to pursue the damages. In other words, they found ways to make the legal costs for him to much for him to keep pursuing it.

So Im on my own for this one.

Any advice is appreciated.
