manual civic bouncing?

Hi there. I just bought an manual 05 Civic EX SE from a dealership about 2 weeks ago. It's been driving perfect for the past two weeks, but starting yesterday when i would reach about 2300-2500 rpm (specifically 3rd-4th gear), the car started bouncing/jumping just a tad (passengers don't notice)...i'm new to manual transmission, so wanted to know if this was normal........hard to explain the bouncing, but imagine tapping on and off the throttle, where you would feel abrupt acceleration for a second, and then then next second you would feel a lag in throttle. This happens when i first start driving the car when it's cold..but after it warms up, i dont notice the bouncing as much.

Any insight would help, thanks!

Same thing happens in my car its a manual too. I don't know what the problem is but it just started up. It's when you start to give it gas in the 2000-3000 rpm range right?

Slower off the clutch, especially when the car is cold because the fluids aren't circulating properly just yet. Is it happening when you shift or just while driving.

Re: manual civic bouncing?

It's just when it's driving it's not extremely noticeable but my foot isn't even on the clutch when it happens so I am pretty sure it's not a clutch problem but rather something in the engine or with the throttle

it's just when driving...like he said above, foot isn't even on the clutch. However, everything was find yesterday when i drove. Haven't driven today, hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Re: manual civic bouncing?

I think the same thing happens to me. However it only happens in 1st gear, when in parking lots and such. Not doing anything with the clutch, just simply driving. Feels as if it jolts forward for maybe a fraction of a second. I dont think this is a problem, I think it may just be the lack of torque in the engine causing this to happen. Dont quote me on that though, I could be wrong. Any input?

Regardless, I think it may be natural for the manual transmission paired with a low torque engine, and Im not too worried about it.

ya i'm not trippin about it. hopefully i shouldn't be haha. It's happening less and less though, because i'm letting the engine warm up for a good 5 mins before i start driving. seems to be helping.

Re: manual civic bouncing?

Well, for me it still happens no matter how long ive been driving it. Whenever im in a parking lot in 1st and 2nd gear and the rpms get low it starts to jolt a bit. My take on it is that those are the torquiest gears, and the D17 doesnt provide much torque which makes it a pretty unforgiving setup for the manual trans. I think it is due to the lack of torque in that rpm range.

However, I cant speak as an expert on this, thats just my take on it. If anyone else has info please share.

Re: manual civic bouncing?

Same thing happening here. For me it only happens in 4th gear and always at 60km/hr. Feels like a small acceleration/deceleration as you described. I'm going in for an oil change, wondering if I should mention this or not (really can't afford anything expensive!). BTW this happens for me regardless of the engine is warm or cold.

Same here, it happens regardless. Though it seems odd that it happens to you at that speed.

Re: manual civic bouncing?

OK boys, i have had some issues with this too but i was also getting bad wheel hop in 1st gear. i looked at my engine mounts and my front torque mount was cracked (the rubber was separated) i found a site that makes a polyurethane 2 part mix that u pour in to the mounts and it fixes the broken ones and strengthens the good ones. it was night and day! best $30 bucks i ever spent on my car! i would check your front mount its by your radiator. mine was totally separated. so here u go...

Re: manual civic bouncing?

The front mounts of these civics are weak and prone to failure. Good call Do you find the car shakes more than it used to with the polyurethane?

Re: manual civic bouncing?

Andrew, just curious if you had the exact same problem such as slight acceleration/deceleration for a second while driving (not touching clutch) and if so did fixing your mounts stop this?
