The new form of rice
Before i starts this thread im just stating my opinion on what i've seen lately in my area. It may be different in your area but whatever.
I'm very bored so here we go. I've notice the term rice applies to alot of people these days and its no longer the Big body kit and neon light crowd. It is unfortunatly starting to be the JDM crowd. If you look at it today the retards that are burning out in parking lots and driving fast on the freeway and trying to race every other car they see are the JDM crowd. They are the ones now putting stupid unecessary crap such as tow hooks, lip kits, JDM is cool stickers and some stupid doll to hang from the tow hook that ads 50+ horsepower. Why is this not rice you ask. Because the last Fast and Furious movie that came out featured this stuff and it is glorified in magazines.
So in conclusion if you are JDM and your car is JDM you and your car are posers because they are not really JDM they just look like it

The only people that are posers are the ones that worry about what others think of them... so, do to your car what you want. If you think it looks good, that's about all that is important. I don't drive down the road saying.. "Wow, that guy is a complete Asshat. Look at that wing". Although, I do think it is a waste of money!

There is a definition of rice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_burner). Rice is "cars which have been modified cosmetically to give a false impression of high performance, but not actually capable of it". Lip kits aren't considered rice because they're offered from the factory (e.g. 2004 Civic with the HFP Lip Kit). The same is with side markers, fog lights, wings, rims, exhaust finishers, etc because they are all offered from Honda. Outrageous wings, graphics, emblems/badges, halos, etc are rice because they give the impression of high performance.
The people weaving in and out of cars trying to race everyone aren't rice. They're just *******s that hang out together. They'll get enough tickets or arrested and learn.
You seem very angry though and I kinda understand what you mean. Imports get a bad rap all the time. People that hate on import enthusiasts are just rednecks...

I know what you mean. Some kid pulled up to me the other day with his blue civic with a body kit and paint job with the wannabe badass look on his face. the car was nice but the wing killed it and the douche driving it and it was an automatic. lol. i just laughed cause he was like 16 or 17 and i know his mommy and daddy paid for it all and there was nothing under the hood probably. people get a body kit and automatically think it makes their car fast and amazing but dont even know how to change the oil or where to put the fluid in at. should be smacked with their dipstick
If i see the car again ill get a pic and post it. More and more people in socal putting stupid wings on their cars. i see it everyday in moreno valley during work.

But lip kits have to be color matched and properly fitted to not look ricey. I personally don't have anything against a little rice, I critique the overall look. It is a damn shame when something ricey ruins the look of a car though...

I have heard many people say that aftermarket exhausts usually do more to lower the power rather than improve it, due to the back-pressure needed, or whatever. So, does that mean that the people that add fart cans to their cars really do like the way it sounds, or are they not informed of the reverse impact it has on the performance?
I had to drive a Neon my dealership took in on trade a few years ago that had one that we were getting removed and I wore a hat and zipped my jacket over half of my face so that nobody I saw would recognize me. Really, to me, unless it's a beefy 6 cylinder like the BMW 3.0 or the 3.7 in the 370, not too many engines with less than 8 cylinders sound too sweet, no matter what you do.

I have a plush Stitch doll hanging from my rear tow hook.. lol.. Then again, I got a bunch of random stuff on my car.. and I like seeing peoples' reactions to the random stuff on my car.. I also have a soshinoya badge, but it has a filipino flag design instead of the "JDM" green/yellow.. again, random stuff I have..
Other than those reactions, I don't care how much people hate on my car.. Sure, I have a "big ***" wing (Kaminari KTR-II) and a carbon fiber hood (Seibon OEM), but I will be the first to admit I got them solely for looks. The wing actually does look better in person than it does in pictures.

Just because it is offered by the manufacturer doesn't make it immune from being rice.

now an opinion from redneck land (oklahoma!!)
nothing worse than a stock car with the coffee can muffler, wing, big *** wheels, and a dumbass behind the wheel. around here most imports are either bone stock, or as i described earlier. i guess Joe Bob went to the movie, saw fast and furious, and decided his stock import was really a race car in disguise.
example. today i was at gas station with my truck. it is loud due to the hole in the muffler! anyway, kid in civic with big wing, ground affects, and fart can pulls up to get gas. he says "nice truck". i say thanks. he says "you race?" i told him, you don't want any, this thing has a v8 with 6 cylinder headers, and a turbo muffler. at 80mph that turbo spools and it'll smoke the tires to 120mph. kid comes over, looks up under my truck, all around it, and then says "that thing is badass, man you could really win some money with that, i bet it's faster than anything around!"

I think it's comical that people go out and buy stickers for various company products, put them on their cars & advertise for companies for free. Also, aren't they saying to the thieves of the world "Hey, check this out, I have several thousand dollars worth of easily stolen & fenced parts on my car!"
