05 DX Cruise Control gone

So I had the TPS (throttle Position Sensor) changed in my '05 Civic.
Honda wanted $680 for the part plus two hours plus another $99 firmware upgrade and taxes.
I found a local mechanic who did it for $500 cash with a rebuild...

but..

when I picked it up, it had a revving issue so I ' re-learned / reset ' the ECU which I picked up from this thread link - Thanks so much !!!

but.. (again)..

since then, I noticed that my cruise control isn't working. The light comes on but is not being activated. Does anyone have any ideas of where I can possibly start to look?

I checked the fuse, it's good.

Thanks!

Re: 05 DX Cruise Control gone

shouldve picked up a full used throttle body on ebay for $50 and bolted it on. its very difficult to calibrate the TPS properly so its always easier to swap in a whole new throttle body. for $500 you could have bought an entire brand new honda throttle body with all the sensors and still had plenty of $$ leftover. as for the cruise, maybe the guy forgot to install the cruise cable to the throttle body or did not adjust it properly.

Re: 05 DX Cruise Control gone

It's cheaper then the $850 that honda wanted.
plus the $200 I spent on diagnosing the issue.

I'll check the cable.

thanks

Re: 05 DX Cruise Control gone

The dealership is BRUTAL... I'm telling you. I have an 05 and it had some overheating issues. I told them to change the thermostat and they tried to charge me 200 bucks labor for it. Because they had to "Diagnose it".. I was like wtf did you diagnose I told you what to do. Needless to say I'm going to do the work by myself from now on...!!! 850 is ridiculous.

It's like they are taught not to care about other people, and their finances.

Re: 05 DX Cruise Control gone

Similar case: I set the cruise control on the freeway. When releasing the pedal the car kept slowing down and suddenly the engine down shifted and revved really high. During an oil change my mechanic told me that the cruise servo was not pulling on the cable so the brain (really technical) interpreted the drop in speed as an uphill climb. That is why it down shifted and revved up to keep up with the speed that the servo was not pulling. I called the dealership for a price quote and got a good, but nervous laugh. I went to my local junk yard specializing in Honda parts and got a servo with cable for $20. I installed it and I was good to go.

Re: 05 DX Cruise Control gone

you can also tighten the cruise cable (near the throttle cable, which can also be tightened) if the cruise is not engaging fast enough after pressing the set button. mine was a bit lagging, so i took the slack out and now it grabs within 1 sec.
