High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

Hi,

I have this issue with my car where as soon as I go over 120Km/h (75mp/h), the front end of my car vibrates - in the steering wheel its felt as left to right - but looking at the dash and feeling the floor, it seems like its moving up and down. Another issue which i think is Related is a creaking noise when i turn while accelerating at slower speeds. it sound like "the old creaky door". Another potentially related issue is a clunking noise from the front right when going over bumps (feels like the vibration is coming from this wheel as well).

Ive had my Engine Mounts changed 5000kms ago so i'm sure its not that, my guess is its the Inner CV joints but the Dealer has said that they have test driven it and they are not faulty.

Balancing and Alignment were done multiple times to correct the problem but with no success, however the guy at the wheel shop did point out that one of my front rims was buckled so they swapped the fronts out with the rears.

it seems to be gradually becoming worse... any ideas Welcome! Thanks

Re: High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

creaking is usually sway bar bushings that need lube. as for vibration, if balance doesnt fix it, the rim is bent or damaged. or if they are aftermarket, many of them are not made perfectly round and impossible to get a good balance out of. did you notice any difference when they swapped front and rear wheels?

They Stock Civic 15"s. very little difference when they were swapped around.

Just to add to my previous post, the vibration is way worse on uphills and when turning.

Re: High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

i know you changed the engine mounts, but maybe you should check again? they are terrible for breaking especially the front one, and that would cause vibration too. i had that same issue a while back and went with energy suspension inserts for the front mount.

Re: High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

Ive heard that these front mounts are horrible... will have a look at it later today. if it is gone, would you recommend, replacing it, getting ES inserts or doing the Window Weld DIY?

so ES Inserts in only the Front mount is good enough? not gonna put to much pressure on the rear one as a result?

Re: High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

windoweld doesnt work, that stuff never gets hard enough unless its cold outside and not a practical fix. if one arm is broken, you can use the ES mounts to fix it. getting a new mount is really a waste of time, and its not exactly a 5 minute job to change it each time. put the ES inserts once and forget about it. you can even just do the front mount inserts and not the rear. the front is the only problem mount anyway. and you wont have much vibration at all. i hardly even notice anymore.

Re: High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

The Front mount isnt cracked or anything - seems pretty solid... but the motor does seem to move around a bit when i accelerate while looking at it.

I'll give the ES Inserts a try... but i am doubting this being the problem.

another thing ive noticed when going slowly (like under 20km/h [12 mp/h]) is that it feels like the car is going over shallow grooves, kinda like an up and down motion in the car. maybe related?

Re: High Speed Wobble/Acceleration Creaks

Slightly more wear on the outer edge of the part that touches the road, on both wheels. (outer edges of the tires).
Tires are correct pressure at 2.1 bar, checked yesterday, and they are fairly new Yokohama. Less than a year old.
