So my 01 civic's transmission went out today. I need to get something asap. I was looking through the junk yards and can get a 2005 auto trannt with a broken front mount that needs welded for 600 bucks.
or I can get a rebuilt one for 1700 from advance auto.
what should I do?

just have the old one rebuilt with the TCIauto.com master racing overhaul kit. it will be a ton better than any used one you would find.

Yeah. I've looked on craigs and can't find anything locally. I actually called the guy back at advance auto parts and he told me that he knows a guy that does import transmissions rebuilds. That he did his on his 2000 honda and has been good since. I called the guy and he quoted me 1100 for the rebuild. He removes and installs it too.

Updating this. We just wound up taking the car to a place to get the trans overhauled. 1280 for overhail and install with 2 year warranty.....

Damn, was the tranny slipping before the fail? I have a 2001 civic as well, and I've read a bit about the automatic tranny problems. I just changed out the transmission fluid, and sometimes the transmission will slip gearing out of first gear.

damn first gear huh? mine at the moment slips from a cold start going into 4th gear, so i usually just start off in D3 for a couple minutes.
when does yours seem to slip? from what i understand the aftermarket tranny coolers help a lot especially on our crappy auto trannies :\ but if yours is only doing it from cold starts that would probably end up causing even more problems if you don't let it heat up to operating temp first

Mine went out at about 60k. Got one from a junkyard, THAT one went out about a year later. (Came out of another '01) Final one came out of a '04 and still going strong.
KNOW WHERE YOUR TRANNY CAME FROM! AVOID GETTING ANOTHER 01 TRANNY!
