what are the chances??
i go to open my car this morning, around 34F usual winter weather, and only one door lock pops up! the other 3 barely move up a few mm and then drop back down. everything was working fine yesterday too. after alot of jiggling the locks up and down, i finally get one to start working randomly. rest of em are dead. so im gonna have to go tearing into all the panels again in freezing weather lol. im wondering is it alot of work to convert to manual door locks? my driver side is already messed anyway and the key wont even work, and i really dont want to have to look and see if all the doors are locked everytime i leave the car. i have no problem using a key to get in, it takes the same amount of time as pressing the button on my remote. im guessing im gonna need the dx latch assembly, maybe i will look up how much they cost if lubing the power ones dont help. im gonna tear everything open today and spray silicone everywhere. i guess it gives me an excuse to rip out the old and crusty dynamat that started peeling off and put some new stuff.
Re: what are the chances??
how annoying. my driver side door lock actuator is still screwed too and i havent had the effort to go and spend upwards of $80 at the dealership so ive been using a key to get in too.
if that happened to 3 all at once, it might not be the motor, maybe it has something to do with the cold. i can imagine how much more annoying it would be with all doors of a sedan giving you problems. you should leave it for a few days and just wait to see if it works again. the first time mine stopped working, it stopped for a few weeks then started working again for over a year. now its definitely broken.

Re: what are the chances??
thats how our accord is. some days it locks 99% of the time, other days it will never work. im wondering if its a lubrication problem. im gonna end up completely dismantling the latch and see if i can bring it back to life. it seems like silicone lube works well to fix stuff like this. im also spraying down all the power window channels cause they are starting to slow down too. i for sure need to fix the driver side problem, cause even the key doesnt work to unlock. it does, but feels like the key is about to bend because of how hard im having to turn it. oh well, at least i can go one door at a time. and maybe get one side done before the snow starts again.
Re: what are the chances??
yea thats what id do, just wait and see if you can fix it before you remove it all. power locks are very nice to have if its all working good.
oh i was meaning to ask you for a while now but kept forgetting....i remember you saying your driver window screams as youre lowering it. mine had done the same all summer (its just recently gone away since snow came) but how do you cure that problem? mine can be so loud at times. like nails on a chalkboard.

Re: what are the chances??
The actuators are just small DC motors with a pinion/worm gear and a larger plastic gear, It pretty much has to be the motor that fails. There was a thread somewhere that had part #s for the DC motors.
unTuned...For the noisy window make sure the rubber insert in the channels are pressed into place and clean them real well, I pushed mine in and it has popped out again, I need to figure out a way to get it to stay in place.

I read a couple of times that graphite spray is a good lubricant for that kind of task. It's a dry lubricant, so it doesn't let the dust stick on it. It also keeps its properties at low temperatures.
Maybe you could try that.

Re: what are the chances??
ever since i sprayed the glass channels with silicone spray, the squeaking is completely gone. it sometimes returns every few months, so i just spray it again. this is only spraying the top of the channel, like rolling the window down and spraying in from the top. i also plan to do the bottoms since i have the door panels off anyway. silicone is good cause it is clear and dries up yet stays smooth.
but yeah today i didnt make much progress, i took the pass door panel off and have been cleaning up the old dynamat and stuff. im also gonna redo the fabrics that are peeling again, so prolly wont be done for quite a while.

Re: what are the chances??
i got most of the dynamat out (2.5 lbs worth) from pass door and reinstalled the speaker. still need to do fabric but what is a good glue? the 3M spray didnt work too well and some parts started to bubble again. elmer's glue? a thin layer of silicone? fabric i have was pretty thin too i guess. maybe i will go shopping for fabrics. does walmart have a good selection or should i try elsewhere?
Re: what are the chances??
I have some kind of liquid glue that my dad bought me some from his work, Its the best glue i ever used, glues anything u want it to glue.. I heard that gorilla glue which u can find at wally world (wall mart).. Just dont get the one that only glues wood tho...
Wall mart do have fabric, but i dunno, if they have the color that ur looking for... Go check it out...

Re: what are the chances??
i dont know about the walmarts there, but ours have a pretty good fabric selection with everything youd need including all adhesives. elmers glue is too rich and i dont think it would work great on fabrics, and i would never use silicone as an adhesive.
we have this great store called fabricland, not sure if you have them there but they have absolutely everything you could ever think of and the people there know it all. you just need to tell them what fabric youre adhering and what type of surface texture or material youre adhering it to.

Re: what are the chances??
i will check walmart, i dont like the spray glue cause you always miss some spots and other areas get too much. maybe i can spread it around after spraying. i still have a ton of cleaning to do to the panel before i can put new fabric anyway. theres glue residue everywhere and in the side channels too.
Re: what are the chances??
The glue i am talking about is not spray, its like a school glue bottle and u just squeeze the bottle, worked for me real good on everything, except my front bumper in my Cl, that's the reason my dad bring some really good/strong glue from work..
Utuned, i know what u saying on the fabric in wall mart...

Re: what are the chances??
walmart and ben franklin both sucked, there was nothing i could use. joann had only one kind that i ended up getting, kinda like a grey suede type. but im having alot of problems trying to glue it on. the spray glue just eats right thru it and ruins the fabric. so im gonna try again with this new stuff i got, its 3M 45 general purpose and sprays on clear. it doesnt come out in chunks like the other 3M stuff like super 90. i tried wet, and it melted thru the fabric again. so im gonna try spraying on the panel, then let it evaporate for a bit before laying the piece down. hopefully that works and it keeps the stickyness.

Re: what are the chances??
okay i tried it again and if i wait 30 secs for the glue to evaporate the solvents after spraying, it doesnt ruin the fabric. so im gonna try it today and see what happens. i need to tape off the door panel but yeah spray glue is suck. the one i have is "light materials" too so i hope fabric qualifies lol. the nozzle has good, even coverage tho. we will see.
Re: what are the chances??
Good Luck, i hope it works...
My fabric on the doors were coming off too, i used a gorilla glue, and it worked fine for me. Its not coming off yet, been 6 months already..

Re: what are the chances??
the problem with my old ones were the fabric started to come apart from the liner, this time i got extra thin stuff that has the backing sewn in with the fabric. cause when i pulled the old ones off, the top fabric came right up and the bottom was still stuck to the panel. thats the problem with cloth tho, its really just a matter of time before it bubbles up again. they shouldve never put cloth on a door panel. esp not a civic panel. and on better cars, the fabric is a molded insert, not actual cloth glued in.

Re: what are the chances??
im not having good luck with this at all. the spray glue bled right thru some parts of the fabric, and it isnt even bonding very well. i spend all day cleaning up the glue residue and sanding the plastic so now im back to the beginning. i really wanna use this fabric, but seems like the backing is too soft and stretchy. has anyone used double sided tape for something like this? i think i may try that, and maybe get some new fabric.
