Timing Belt replaced, now it's knocking
Timing Belt replaced, now it's knocking
03 LX auto, 4 door if it matters or you care. Had the timing belt done at a local shop, as it was time (108k). After I got it back, I noticed the engine is generally louder than it was previously, but I chalked it up to new parts needing to break in (tensioners, water pump, crank and cam seals were all done at the same time).
Now I notice that, in addition to the engine being a little louder in general - and by that I mean nothing in particular is louder, just the entire engine - it's knocking during acceleration. I'm wondering if maybe timing is off by a degree or something, or if there's anything stupid I should look at / for before taking it back into the shop. Mileage doesn't seem to be affected at all since the timing belt service, so I am hesitant to think timing, but I don't know what else it could be. I've now put around 1000 miles on it since the service, I think that's plenty of break-in time.
Any suggestions?

Re: Timing Belt replaced, now it's knocking
Sounds like the timing got advanced.
When realigning the cam and crank pullies just being one tooth off will either advance or retard the timing slightly.
Try higher octane gas to see if the ping goes away.

bad timing also can cause your catalytic converter to go bad. huge PITA for us in California. if you have emissions regulations see if they will replace that for free too. =P
