Bad tires?
Bad tires?
I just noticed today that my front tires are pretty gone. I've only had my car since July 2001, and it only has 10,800 miles on it. My Dad thought they might be over-inflated. But he wasn't sure. Has anyone else had this type of problem?
Thanks
Thanks

I'm going to Honda tomorrow morning to see if theres anything wrong with them. My Dad said they look like they might be over-inflated...So maybe I'll get lucky and get free tires. Otherwise I'm just gonna get them rotated (ya I know, I should have gotten that done 800 miles ago) and hurry and save all my $$$ for new rims and tires... Luckily the rims I want aren't that expensive... so it shouldn't take me too long.

It doesn't matter if you didn't rotate your tires; 10,000 miles on any type of passenger style tire is way to short for tires. So have you checked the air pressure in the tires? The correct inflation of the tires is on a badge inside the front drivers side door. If you take it back to the dealer they will probably say that there is no warrenty unless you have taken it to the dealer for sceduled maintanance. That's my 2˘
Now the question is......How hard you drive the car??.....Do you try to smoke the tires?? (You said the front tires were pretty gone)
If you can afford it buy some Pirelli Cinturata 36's, Oh the traction, but oh the cost, even in a stock EX, after a good highway criuse.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, quiet and sticky.

<< the stock tires are trash
speed rating 5 mph, treadwear rating 10
hydroplane over a drop of water >>
thats so true. my stock tires have 6250 miles on them and im afraid to drive on them in the rain after last night when they were losing grip over nothing, and i dont drive my car hard at all. the $30 tires i had on my 88 omni could run circles around these pieces of sh*t, even comparing them with 26,000 miles on them to the stock firestones with just 6000
if firestone can let sh*t like that off their production line, they certainly wont be selling me any type of tire ever
I don't drive my car very hard at all. And no, I don't try to smoke the tires... I know the stupid firestones won't hold up to that; at least not for long. My boyfriend's constant complaint is that I don't drive hard or fast enough. (he's use to driving his GSR). And I decided not to go to Honda tomorrow. They're probably gonna try to tell me that I need all kinds of things, when really I don't. And I don't feel like wasting most of my day waiting for them. I have more important things to do. I'm gonna rotate the tires, my Dad said that should help until I can afford new rims and tires. Which hopefully won't be long; the rims I want are $500 with free shipping. And I just have to figure out what tires I want to put on them. Thanks for the help.

Overinflation is not the fault of the dealer... there's no way that's covered by warranty. And instead of guessing whether or not they're over-inflated, why can't you just check the pressure yourself ? I check my tire pressures at least twice a month.
you can tell by the wear pattern if they are not inflated properly....think about it....over inflated tires will be round, so it'll wear in the middle. under inflated tires likewise will wear close to the sidewalls while leave the middle in good condition. as said before, the dealer is not only not responsible for inflation, but the tires are not covered by any warrenty. thats why you got a little brochure from firestone, b/c it is the tire manufacturer that deals with the tires...take them to a firestone (or whatever brand they are) to get them looked at.
I figure they are covered under the tire manufacturer's warantee, b/c as said before 10K is WAY too early to be worn no matter how shotty the tires are (but i changed mine to michelins just b/c i dont like to take chances with stock tires)

My Dad read all the fine print about the "warranty" that comes with the crap firestone stock tires, and basically they won't replace them unless their unuseable. Which is CRAP. But whatever. I just decided to be over it and get new rims and tires asap. Thats all I can do for now. Hopefully they'll be ok.
I totally agree with the crappy side of our stock tires, no grip, no stability, no comfort, on and on. However, remember one thing, they are made that way for a reson, they are supposed to be good for like 130,000 km! or about 85000 mi. Have you ever felt the compound the tires are made of, its so hard it feels like plastic!!! You guys must be doin some really incredible things to shred tires this indestructable like that!
