'98 Civic HX needs 02 sensor. $300???

I bought a '98 Civic HX a month ago and haven't gotten great gas mileage, only about 20 mpg. Took it to my mechanic this afternoon, hooked it up to his 'puter, and determined that it's the 02 sensor.

Most '98 Civics take the 4-wire 02 sensors which are around $100. But not this one. The 5-wire sensor, which the manual transmission HX requires, is $300. Why the huge difference between 4 and 5-wire sensors? I'm scratching my head (and holding my wallet close to my vest.)

And ... is it possible to install a used 5-wire 02 sensor from a wrecked model? Where would I find such a thing?

Thanks to all,

jakbeau

i believe its a wideband thats why it costs so much. the narrowband sensors in the regular civics are maybe $50-100. you must use the expensive sensor or you could mess up the car.
