Question Flashing Dash

hi there,

I own a 2003 sport. A few weeks ago i noticed the air bag light was coming on once in a while. Then a few days later the break lights (along with airbag) began flashing on and off. And just a couple of days ago the speedomitor stops working randomly, along with the stereo lighting and the entire dash lights flash on and off. It seems to come and go with no warning or at no specific speed or temp.

Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Exclamation Re: Flashing Dash

so i had the sensors checked out today. That doesnt seem to be the problem. However, she is running about 17.5 Volts (apparently suppose to be around 13.5).

Altenator maybe??

Has anyone ever dealt with this?

Re: Flashing Dash

sounds like alternator is busted and producing too much power. this would definately affect the whole car and should be fixed asap to avoid more serious damage.

Re: Flashing Dash

and by serious damage, im referring to things like fried ecu, messed up sensors, battery starting to leak and heating up from being overcharged, etc. damage you may never be able to fix in some cases. so dont keep driving the car.

Thumbs down Re: Flashing Dash

The nearest Honda dealership is about 2.5 hours away. I am now hesitant to drive that distance. I can purchase an altenator and have in installed if that is the problem.

Could there be some other reason for the battery over charging..

Re: Flashing Dash

its almost always an alternator problem, or some component within it. do you have any other general repair shops nearby that could swap the alternator? make sure its a reputable place that does good work. if its not installed properly (all the bolts put back and grounded) the ecu will fry.

Re: Flashing Dash

It was the altenator. Had it fixed today and took my chances with the drive to a dealer! It all worked out and didnt burn a huge hole in my wallet.

NOW, since they had to unplug the battery, my stereo needs to be re-started and i cannot find the code... We tryed the 1&6 hold, but did not work. The dealer couldnt help either.

IS there a way to find the code without having to remove the stereo to find the serial number?

thanks
