My 2003 DX gets 42 mpg??? is that normal??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last year I purchased a used 2003 DX manual with 90k miles on it. More maintence records then I have ever seen before (good ones) with synthetic oil since day one. The previous owner was completely **** about keeping it mechanically excellent.

I drive mostly 3/4 highway and 1/4 city. Even with my A/C blowing full power I still manage to get 40-42 MPG every single time.

Is this because I have the DX model? with no power windows, door locks etc? maybe the less weight makes the difference? Or is it every 2003 Civic manual transmission gets this type of gas mileage?

I really want to get an LX or EX model because the now power windows/door locks is just getting old... But I dont want to lose 42 mpg!! What can i expect on the LX/EX models? Also I would really prefer an automatic but I know that will probably kill the gas mileage.

thanks

My driving habits are similar to yours in terms of highway/city. I don't drive with fast starts or stops. I have a 2003 EX Coupe. I manage between 38-41 mpg, anything out of that range is abnormal for me.

Ok so it looks like I could get an EX and it is about the same. I just wanted to make sure its not the DX model itself beacues like i mentioned i really need some power windows/doorlocks.

yes its normal. dx is stripped down version and is alot lighter because of no power anything, no moonroof, no ac, etc. but ive gotten 42 on the highway with my 2002 EX before too.

Well the DX has A/C or at least mine does. But good to konw the EX is capable of gettin simliar high MPG.

I wonder why its so underrated in testing?

its only a few things. i think it might have something better than the regular stereo of the dx, and i thought it came with some power features. did you buy the car new? its possible you have the dx and and ac was added later. honda sells the conversion for around $800 + labor. here this is a good site for you too

The Value Package is simply the DX with air conditioning and a radio with a CD player capability. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have a 2003 EX auto, and I usually only get 26-29 mpg. I got 30mpg like once.

on the highway or city? city mileage is usually much lower. you cant know for sure unless you calculate mpg with a full highway trip.
