Dimmer doesnt work

Alright, So i've searched the forums up and down for my problem of all my dash lights being out, and ive checked every fuse, incl. "backup" and "small lights" and then i searched stuff up on the dimmer wire being improperly attached when installing a deck (ooops, guilty of that) but i disconnected the wire, and still nothing. I tried to find an answer to what actually happens when you incorrectly attach the dimmer wire, but couldnt find anything.

Anyways, the one light behind my trip/odo works when the light switch is not switched on, but once i switch up, that light goes off, and nothing else comes on. ie. Backlighting HVAC controls etc.

I also took out the cluster and tested the bulbs, and the all came up good,So Ive determined its the Dimmer switch thats faulty, however i dont know any way to fix it.

If someone can point me in the right direction that would be stellar.

Re: Dimmer doesnt work

it fries the dimmer switch. you need to install a new one from junkyard, or get a cheap cluster on ebay and use it for parts. i know someone has done it successfully. i believe you just remove the old one and solder on the new one. if youre somewhat good with electronics, its possible. otherwise just replace the whole gauge cluster with a different one but be sure it has the same or nearly same mileage as your current one.

Re: Dimmer doesnt work

ah well then there we go

The junkyards around my place dont really carry anything newer than like 2000, so i'd be hard pressed to find a 7th gen. Guess i'll be lookin up ebay.
