which code reader to buy?
which code reader to buy?
I have a 04 civic and i want to be able to read and clear codes. I would also like to see whats going on while driving down the road if that is possible. Is the data port the same on all cars?
Thanks,

Re: which code reader to buy?
most new cars 1998+ use OBDII system with same plug. i have a $30 cheap ebay reader (made by c-tools) that lets you view and erase codes. its small enough to fit in the glove box and its all you really need. if you want fancy ones that monitor the engine, its gonna cost $200-500.
Re: which code reader to buy?
What you would want to look into is a Scangauge2, it can read codes, clear codes (but you would have to look up what the codes mean on the net), and it would tell you real time of engine data such as throttle position sensor, water temperature, air intake temperature, manifold pressure, MPG, speed, rpm, etc... I just got one 2 weeks ago and Im still experimenting on when to shift to get the best fuel efficiency.
