Angry Insufficient Air Flow To EGR????

so here is the problem...gotta 2004 civic dx/vp m/t....d17a1....broke a wrist pin on one of the cylinders...instead of doing a rebuild, it was cheaper to get a used motor....paid 500 dollars for a what was supposed to be a d17a1 out of a 2005 lx auto w/ 8200 miles on it...motors was supposed to be exact...but when i got the motor and got my mechanic to put it in i was throwing a CEL....went and got it scanned and the code was P0401, insufficient air flow to egr...i talked to the guy that swapped the motor and he said that he had to swap the thermostat housing off the old motor to the new motor because the new motor did not have a EGR valve on the thermostat housing (my car has EGR valve on the thermostat housing..)....i have changed the egr valve twice and still gettin the same code...had the egr passages cleaned and still gettin the same exact code...what else could i do to try to solve the problem...and suggestions..both motors are d17a1's should my computer work.. ive tried the only things that i know to possibly do...now im just gettin agrivated with it.....anyone with any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it....thanks

Re: Insufficient Air Flow To EGR????

problem is that the head u got was not designed for egr, 01-02 lx didnt have egr, and doesnt have the same ports for the egr solenoid, and hence the egr port problem and check engine light. sorry man, this sucks, but u could use your old head off ur old block, or get an lx head from an 04-05 motor, but it is possible that hte egr is bad, but i doubt it

Re: Insufficient Air Flow To EGR????

so if i get the head off of a 04-05 dx/lx...it should work right...is the egr valve and the egr siloneid the same thing or it it 2 different parts..?...and if i was goin to do the head swap wouldnt it better if i went with the 04-05 ex head to have the vtec-e.....i know i would have to get a vafc controller for the vtec-e but is that all....or would it just be best to put the head on it that belongs on it...is there any other difference in the d17a1 and d17a2 besides the head...?.....i just know whatever the case maybe i need to get it fixed because i need it to pass EMISSIONS TEST and i dont wanna go through any other damage from driving it with this problem...ive had this problem for about a year now i just never thought on asking on a furum about it....thanks

Re: Insufficient Air Flow To EGR????

or would it be cheaper/easier to just get a 04-05 d17a1 or d17a2 with the egr on the thermostat housing already to swap with the motor i have now....???
