i just did the mini me swap just a few hours ago. the whole a2 head on a1 block. made sure timing was right. every connector is in its place. so are all vacuum lines and misc. hoses.. i install EX ECU and i go connect the battery then i tryied to crank it over ,but..... it cranks but doesnt fire..... i checked for fuel. and i was getting fuel pressure... i checked for spark and there was nothing. and i know i am getting compression so thats not a problem and timing is dead on. so i disconnected the battery unhooked the EX ECU and put the Stock LX ECU back in. went to crank it and it started for about 2 seconds but when i gave it gas it died. still cranks but does actually start.. i know there are 2 relays i believe they are wired into the ecu that are directly behind the glove box. when i crank the motor one of them clicks insanely fast.... i take it thats not good.. if anybody could help me out i would be very grateful considering i need it to be running because i just ordered a turbo a few days ago.

well im assuming foos told you that you have to reflash the EX ecu before it will even start the car and the lx ecu isnt designed to run the ex head so thats probably most your problems right there. so you could get the ex ecu reflashed at a dealer and it will run the head.

kk on dseries speedfoo told me to swap the LX ecu back in, and try jumping it. I swapped it back in tried to jump still nothing. Crank turns everything just no spark. I charged the batter car will turn just wont start. getting flustered. While trying to start the ECU relays make a fast clicking sound. Dunno what that is. I'll post a vid if it helps for what its doing.

immobilizer disables the fuel and spark, so it keeps cranking. your old key wont work with new ecu. is all the wiring correct? i know you cant just plug in the ex ecu and expect it to work. did you connect the vtec solenoid wire?

Right now i have the LX wired up until i'm able to drive to honda to get it reflashed. I had the EX wired up with the vtec noid but it did the same thing. I took the Ex out and put the LX back in and now it wont start.

ok just hooked up the LX ECU and tested the wires to the coil packs... i get power from the ground and the wire from the ignition fuse under the drivers side dash.... im just not getting anything from the coil wires coming from the ecu..... any suggestions... and the relay stopped clicking really fast. it slowed down to about 2 clicks per second

doesnt the ex and lx use a different engine harness? what did you do with the wiring of the EX ecu? just a guess but it might be the fuel cut off relay that is clicking so its probably got pissed with all the different ecus it was dealing with and might be trying to save the engine if it thinks somethings off. i would say double check your wiring and see if somethings not where its supposed to be. i really wouldnt suggest driving the car far at all with the wrong ecu in it but that is just my opinion. was the car starting consistently with the lx ecu on the first time? just a thought maybe the jumping of the car screwed something up. sorry im not more help

i wasnt going to swap out the ECU but i did i was just going to manually wire in the vtec.. and i did that all 100 perfect correct. i got the wire connectors that fit right into the ecu harness and i didnt want to egr valve so i didnt care about wiring that in because i didnt have it before i dont need it now either lol. well the car started fine until i did the head swap. then i went to start it and nothing happened. i didnt wire the vtec in at first because i dont think that vtec is that important where it wouldnt let the engine spark... i am getting fuel just no spark.. ignition coil wires 1-4 from ecu to coil packs are not getting power...

the car wont start...
LX ECU is in.
Only thing thats different is the EX head is on instead of the LX.
timing was set perfectly.
problem is there isn't a spark.

fyi, i dont think you can measure the pulse power going to the coils, its really fast and a multimeter wouldnt pick it up.

fyi the other 2 wires are getting power so obviously the 3rd isnt if they arent sparking.

just ran and 8 step process.. checked all wires again.. checked ignition fuse.. checked for continuity between grounds and to make sure there wasnt continuity between the ignition wires from the ECU and the body ground.. everything there seems to be fine.. last step is to check if i have .5v from the ignition wires from the ecu to the coil packs... hopefully i find out what i need to fix it... thanks to ron j from hondacivicforum.com he gave me wiring diagrams and a completer ignition system trouble shooting guide.
