Timing belt broke. Is my engine done?
Timing belt broke. Is my engine done?
I was driving my car a day or two ago on the highway. Goin a good 70. My car stopped accelerating and slowed down to a stop and turned off. When i try to start the car it won't start. Just keeps making a weird belt noise which seems to sound like the timing belt.
I brought it to the mechanic at honda and he said my motor might be done.
Honda just had my car two weeks ago for bent valves and they replaced the timing belt and water pump. Could they have put a faulty timing belt to cause this?

couldnt say without looking. maybe can be fixed but someone looks like messed up on the repairs. this happened on a 92 accord here and the belt slipped 22 degrees and engine was dead. but then they changed the belt and amazingly the engine was fine.

My guess is they ****ed up the tensioner when they put the timing belt and whatnot back on. The tensioner probably backed out, threw your motor of time, and you now have 12 freshly bent valves - all 16 if the engine was in VTEC - from when the tensioner went out. It's also possible the pistons were damaged when they hit valves, possibly the rod bearings too if they hit hard enough. My guess would be just valves though because you probably just cruising at 75.
Bottom line is that if Honda just did your T-belt, the mechanic put it back together incorrectly and caused this problem. Do not accept any other answer from the guys at Honda. They caused this.
