Help Help - stranded!!
Help Help - stranded!!
long story short I put it an ebay short ram and took a road trip the next day went about 1000miles no issues now on the way back as im going down the highway my car is randomly jolting forward a tiny bit every 15 -20 mins not my check engine came on and im stuck at a rest stop and 200 miles way from home does anyone know whats going on and if so can this be fixed right now and cna i drive with this problem and if so how far?
Re: Help Help
1. check for airleaks
2. try and reset the ECU by disconnecting the NEG- battery for 5 minutes while stepping on the brakes to drain the power.
3. also, check the AFM for airleaks, i believe it goes right into the SRI pipe.
NOTE:
afterwards, let the car idle for 15 minutes before driving to allow for the ECU to reprogram itself.

Re: Help Help
I reset the ecu and everything was good for about 10 miles then the problem kept happing. Now i'm stuck in a hotel in Albany 200 miles away from my house. it looks like i've going to have to take the care somewhere to get it fix. is there any place i should/ should not take the car
also this problem im guess came from putting on a crappy ebay intake if i put a new ame one on would that fix this?

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
ebay intake most likely would not cause the problem. unless you forgot to plug the temp sensor back in. even if you have some airleaks, it shouldnt be doing that. unless you have big holes or something.
Re: Help Help - stranded!!
is the temp sensor different from the o2 sensor and where is it located at. also when i take it for someone to look at in a few hours should i take to the dealer, a Honda specialist or does it not really mater
also have you ever herd of a car randomly jerking forward on the highway and this is done with out my doing anything, it even dose it if i put the car is course control
also could this be A cylinder misfire? and what happens if i drive on it?

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
is the engine light on? have that checked first. temp sensor should be located in the intake pipe (or in the plastic airbox for stock intake). maybe something happened to the throttle cable. idk. misfire also theres no way it would happen from installing intake. and even if one cylinder was missing, the car would shake bad and have alot less power.
Re: Help Help - stranded!!
there was time while i was driving during my road trip were i was driving and felt like there was less power but i didnt question because i was getting 42 miles to the gallon. at one point i did have a check engine light but i reset the ecu and it went away. also today i took it to a car place and the guy said he can feel the bucking but does not knwo what it is and no codes came up
what now
Ok i got the car to put up error codes and I'm getting p0336 Crank Position Sensor given that do i need to put a new one in? what needs to be done here and how bad will my car be if i drive 200 miles with this issue??
with his code code the jerking be a misfire?
just tighten all the air hoses with clamps and took the car out for a spin and the check engine light went off now I wonder if I fixed the problem or if the car is just missing with me

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
anyhow...id still disconnect the battery and hit the brakes for a minute or so, then reconnect the NEG- and let it idle for 15 minutes so the ECU can re-pregram itself)
anyways...good to see you gotter done!
Re: Help Help - stranded!!
Took another trip and this problem has come back. I took the whole thing apart and I know there's no air leak problem. Could it be that I'm using the eBay air filter or is it time to take the car to the dear before a bigger problem comes up? also am now getting cels and a loss of power, could this be the timing belt going?

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
What CELs are you getting? Go to Vatozone and have them pull the codes (it's free).
Then, put the stock intake back on and see what happens. Before you do that though, post a few pics of the short ram and how it's hooked up so we can see if there is something dorked up.

I'm getting the p0336 Crank Position Sensor CEL and I broke the stock intake taking it out so now I'm stock with after market ones only. I was wondering if it was because I still have the crap ebay filter on.

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
I ran an Ebay CAI for 3 years then used the same filter on my turbo for the past year, it's fine. Your CEL says your Crank Position sensor has gone bad. That's your problem right there. Here:
Carl's D17A1 sensor sale
Carl is selling one for $10 shipped. That should fix your problem.

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
Thanx for the link but its a couple years old, also I think it’s something else. I read somewhere on here that those sensors rarely go and if they do it's always a bad timing belt job. This being the case I don’t think this problem will show after 10k mils. Also I wonder why every time I do something to fix it, it will go away for a little bit and then comeback a few days later. My last run in with this problem was on my trip. after having to reset the ecu 4 times on the side of the highway on my 200 mile trip home. I did it one last time at my girlfriend’s house and the car ran fine for 400miles. Also in between the time I change my tranny fluid my car as never ran better until my trip to work this morning where it happened again. I’ve read on the forums that our cars do crazy things when not grounded right. How do I check to make sure the car was grounded right at the battery or if the cables are going bad. Also my girl friend thinks the car tends to do this when the ac is on and that was the case thins morning after I turned the ac. I did do a refill at one point and at times while driving its seem life white smoke is coming out the vents similar to when you breath on a cold morning.
Thanx for the help in advance guys and I know this is going to be hard to read I’m trying to get this up quickly at work.

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
Carl updates that thread once a week and he still has the sensor.
In regards to the battery ground, pull the battery out and then the battery tray underneath it as well. You'll see the ground point there on the frame for your battery and be able to assess it's condition.

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
More than likely they have not gone bad, but if the grounding point is all crappified and nasty looking, just un-bolt it, clean it up and re-attach it.
Re: Help Help - stranded!!
Any ideas what to clean them with? Also what are you thoughts about putting in new spark plugs and using fuel injector cleaner. I think I might be due for the sparks but could they be causing this?
Re: Help Help - stranded!!
No dice with new oil, changed it last night and still had the problem on the way to work this morning.
by the way does anyone know whats happening with my car when I'm bucking? and if so how much am I messing the car up by driving it.
Don't know if this helps but It's more likely to happen when I'm driving up hill.

Re: Help Help - stranded!!
Replace the crank sensor. It is more of a common problem than people think. When I worked at Honda we replaced quite a few. The reason it is better after you reset the ecu is because it has cleared all of the faults stored. The sensor is probably in the process of failing completely. I've seen them fail because of oil leaks as well, so check behind the timing covers for any leaks. You don't want to risk driving with that sensor for too long.
Re: Help Help - stranded!!
With your experience with this problem I wanted to pick your brain real fast with 2 quick questions. 1 what is happening to my car when it does buck and is this causing damage? 2 how bad is it to drive on. I asked this because I drive 90 miles round trip daily. I have the part order but don’t think it will be her for 3-4 days which for is 400 miles. Also on my little picture of a air filter. Is it out around the ring if air gets in that I marked with green. Also no including the ring should I be able to take that apart in 2 pieces or is this a feature / problem of a cheap eBay filter.
