Funky handling
Funky handling
So I got new tires a few weeks ago. Falken Ziex ZE-329 (215/17/40)
I noticed this ever so slightly before the new tires, but its getting worse and worse (or at least my head thinks so). When I am driving down the Freeway, above ~50mph, my car likes to swerve around, I am constantly having to correct it. It is not the normal swerving with low profile tires where a slight angle on the road can turn your steering wheel (if you know what I mean). In fact I don't feel any of that with these tires. When I am going straight and jerk the wheel side to side, it is almost like there is a delay before the car goes. I am thinking it is something with the rear sway bar/stabilizer link. It mostly feels like the rear end is swashing around. It's getting kinda scary changing lanes in and out of cars on the freeway.
Car has 141k miles. Not sure if anyone has experienced this or know what to check and look for. I am going to throw the steelies on and see if it persists.

Re: Funky handling
You have worn out struts. Replace them with some Tokico HP's ($350 really good for the $) or Bilstein Sports ($750 best handling possible) and get better then stock handling

Re: Funky handling
get a front upper strut bar and also check your rear sway bar. the endlinks might have broken. also cheap tires dont respond as well when you turn the wheel. alot of it is tires, and some is suspension.

Re: Funky handling
It could be any number of things but Seriously tho a car with 141k miles is gonna have worn struts... They should be replaced just as part of routine maint. even if they aernt the main problem they are for sure contributing

Re: Funky handling
yeah turning corners with blown struts is very scary lol. i fear for my life driving the old 92 accord which is basically riding "bouncing" on the spring.
Re: Funky handling
I replaced the struts at about 110k with some KYB GR2s as well as the ES LCA Bushings. I know what struts feel like, but might be a small contribution? I need to do a full inspection on the whole Suspension/Steering systems. The more I have played around with it while driving, the more it feels like something in the front end, possibly the steering rack. Also the rear, maybe it is crap tires. Anyone know much about those Falken tires? Previous tires were Nankang NS-1 (215/40ZR17) If so I am going back to where I bought them and bitch up a storm. I told him I wanted better handing over ride quality. Oh well, I'm a **** when it comes to tires.
I just haven't had the time to lift her up and check it out, school and work full time cut into that. Just got done doing my front wheel bearings a couple weeks ago, wasn't to bad. Just the fronts alone make a huge difference in the road noise while driving.

Re: Funky handling
well get the neuspeed front upper strut bar. that eliminates alot of play in the wheel. like stock you can turn the wheel side to side an inch or more and the car doesnt even move away from straight line lol. neuspeed makes it more responsive.
Re: Funky handling
I will have to check into one of those to. It's just frustrating because it used to be way responsive. I could have turned the wheel 1/2" and I was already turning. Anyways, thanks for the input. Do our car's front sway bar bushing ever wear out? I got under the car last night to check the rear link and there isn't one! LOL!
