i was on the fwy and my mph gauge went from 85mph to 0 mph and the check engine and the battery lights came on?? then i was almost home and my rpm gauge went out and all the lights were going dem and my car started to hesitate, i got up my drive way and turn off the car and then tried to start it and it would even turn over? would it be the alternator? and what are the amp's on a stock alternator

Stock alternator is a 75amp lump. That's what it sounds like. Check your alternator and main battery fuses first and then see if you can jump the car and keep it running with it hooked up to another car.

Re: would this be my alternator???

do you have an aftermarket downpipe? i had this same exact problem and it turns out that in some weird way the secondary o2 sensor is related to the battery light, and speedo not working. on aftermarket downpipes it usually relocates the spot the o2 sensor plugs into which makes it easier for it to short on something. this can happen without an aftermarket downpipe too its just more rare. if the 2nd o2 grounds out the alt fuse can blow and it can possibly ruin your o2 sensor. check your alt fuse and check your secondary o2 sensor wiring for any possible ground outs. wrap the o2 sensor in electrical tape if you can see the wires.

if you think its a joke its not, how stupid it may sound. give it a try.
