Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
hi my name is mike
and i have a problem
::audience::"Hi mike!"
i went to the gas station last night and my fuel door broke! i wasn't angry at The time because i wasn't totally sober. but today im furious.
NOW the dealership wants to charge me 80$ to diagnose the problem AND THEN if they conclude its under warranty they'll wave the fee. i asked if i could diagnose the problem myself and discover if the problem was under warranty and they said NO! "We CAN'T GIVE YOU OUR DIAGNOSTIC SECRETS! HOW WOULD WE CONTINUE TO SCREW PEOPLE!" I asked them if they had heard about this common problem in our generation of civics and they had no idea what i was talking about, nor have they heard of the website, "www.fueldoorfix.com".
so im going to use the temporary fix from fueldoorfix.com and then take **** apart tonight to see if that 20$ part from fueldoorfix will work.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT EXACTLY BROKE PIECE I SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR TO KNOW IF THE 20$ PIECE FROM FUELDOORFIX.COM WILL WORK
, AS THEY DO NOT EXPLAIN THAT ON THEIR SITE, THANKS
and i have a problem

Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
ok, let me explain this again.
when i push down the lever to release the gas door there is no pressure while pushing it and the gas door sounds like it makes no attempt to open.
NOW, when i take the lever apart tonight like it explains in the video on fueldoorfix.com WHAT IS THE BROKEN PIECE I SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR THAT FUELDOORFIX.COM CLAIMS THEY CAN FIX.
for example, if a f*ckin little spider went inside my fuel door and chainsawed everything inside all to hell, THAT would be the broken piece to look for AND fueldoorfix.com's piece couldnt fix that because its on the completely different end of the f*ckin problem!
lol again, any help would be appreciated. =)

yes it will fix this problem...
call fuel door fix and ask them, it may be easier

Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
they have step by step instructions and pics. the problem is a weak area near the gas door release lever where the cable just snaps. the fix just allows you to put it back together without buying a whole new cable and running it through your car to the gas door (which will just break like the first one did).
Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
awesome so there is absolutely no point in going to the dealership to have the same defective piece replaced. Why wasn't there a recall on this crap!?
alright looks like im climbin in my trunk to pop the door until they ship the part to me.
i'll rip my car apart tonight just to look at it and double check everything. hopefully i can put it back together since im fairly new to this sh*t

Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
there is a tsb on it i believe. but yeah they do not have any kind of fixed update, they just put in another cable assembly which costs $$$. just take off the sill panel that goes around the trunk/gas release lever and see where the cable is broke.

so i broke a lot of trim when infiltrating the broken gas door cable.
its impossible to know where the effin bolts are under the trim you have to pop/slide out! The fueldoorfix.com video is CRAP when you need to figure out the trim! And the video is for a 4 door, NOT A COUPE! AND, the bolt sizes are different
however, i took a lot a lot of pictures of WHAT NOT TO DO, and will be making a DIY for the fueldoorfix for coupe models. i made it far enough to pull the lever set up out underneth the trim, but im gonna have to remove the seatbelt to completely remove the trim and most likely replace it

****in dealership should be able to tell me if its under warranty over the phone.
when i have time to post up the DIY i will post a link in this thread

I don't know why so many people have problems with these broken cables. Do you yank on the lever or something? Ive got nearly 130k on the origional cable...

Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
i guess it just wasnt made very well. i havent had a problem yet, but who knows. they shouldve made it like the throttle cable. from what i gathered tho, its not the cable that breaks, its the part that attaches to the release lever.
Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
BUT, THE REASON I BROKE MINE i believe is because ya'll live in Cali where its nice n hot, i live in md and it gets pretty cold here sometimes. so my gas door freezes shut and the cable can only make so many attempts to open it before breaking

Re: Another Broke Fuel Door 2005 HELP NOW!
I order that piece once and it couldn't fix mine as the wire had seperated from the plastic that hold it still. Since the plastic piece wasn't there the fueldoorfix had nothing to hold it in place and I ended up replacing the entire cable (which was only about $30). However, it's a more work than the fueldoorfix method.
Good luck.
Good luck.
