well i am at a loss, i have no idea what is wrong or what else to test. i felt that taking the pulley off and the noise going away was a solid lead. I am just not sure how else to pursue that lead

are the little guides for the timing belt sproket on correctly with the beveled sides like this \Belt/

timing belt sprocket... thats the top pulley on the timing belt correct? if it is i have no idea what you are talking about. if it isnt then i still have no idea what you are talking about.

crank sprocket is what i was calling the crank pulley? the one where the alternator and powersteering belt connect to... if so then i only have one spot for a woodruff key.

threw a rod but never got a diffinitive answer as far as what the problem was.
