Crashed the civic today.. :(
Re: Crashed the civic today.. :(
how u figure its totaled, only the insurance can determine that, and i doubt it is, that is maybe 3k worth of damage(on the high end) new hood, radiator support, radiator, fender, bumper and headlights, o and air bag, its prolly not totaled, but this could be an excuse for u to get projectors and a carbon fiber hood instead of stock

Re: Crashed the civic today.. :(
Since Civicdriver wants us to play the guessing game on what happened. It looks like he rear-ended someone. You can see the scrapes on his bumper where he slid under the other vehicle.
As far as the 6K goes, I have a friend who owns a State Farm ins branch, he told me the maximum amount that Geico would pay before they totaled the car. I also have a couple other friends that own body shops. So I took the magic number to my friends for the estimates. Bada-bing, I have 3 HIGH estimates that all show the same parts. Geico wrote me a check for the cheapest one minus the $500.00 deductible and I called Eddie at TrueHonda.com to order about 2300 in parts. The rest came from a parts house. I made no money on the crash but my friends did and I got a lot of cool parts.

Re: Crashed the civic today.. :(
They have to price you OEM parts. Then they will give you a magic number. The magic number is the estimate minus your deductible. Now look at the cosmetic parts on the sheet. If you can find after market parts for that price just tell the body shop that is doing the repairs. They should order the parts you tell them or you can order them and have the shop reimburse you. So long as you do not spend more money than the original estimate there should not be a problem.

It is not fraud, to fix the car the way you want. It is fraud to up the estimate. So what part of my story are you referring to as fraud?
If the insurance company said that he has 4k in damage. And he can fix the car with the parts he wants for 3500. This is not fraud and he saved himself the deductible. Totally legal...

That is what I am about.
Don't let the man **** you;
You **** the man....
BTW, I have crashed every vehicle I have ever owned. None of the crashed where my fault...
For example: I purchased a Brand New off the showroom floor Suzuki 2003 TL1000R for 750.00. That is right. I went down to the dealership and put no money down got hosed on the interest and financed some gear also but did not care. Before the dealership could mail me the title the bike was "in a wreck". Insurance paid 8000, Gap insurance picked up the rest. I then purchased the bike back from the insurance company for 550. I have friends that work at the motorcycle shop here in town and they ordered me new plastic for a bike that "Fell over in the show room". I paid 200 for the new plastics from Suzuki. DONE, a new bike for $750.00.

Meh. That's not fraud, that's what you pay them for. Your car is going to get fixed regardless, why shouldn't you get to pick which parts fix your car?
Now insurance fraud is when your truck gets some hail damage, you get the estimates, insurance company writes you a check, and your wife buys a new a video camera instead. This can also happen when your wife gets rear-ended in a parking lot, you get the estimates, company writes you the check, and your wife buys something else (I don't remember what it was). Now that's insurance fraud!
