Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
here are the rules when buying a civic, at least from my point of vue
1. dont buy a modded civic
2. make sure its a vtec
3. make sure its a manual transmission(if u cant drive one, learn, ull like it better)
4. do research on the motor u want, dohc's are better motors, and ull have more fun with it
5. a keyword u might want to learn is SI, if u can find one, ull love it
6. make sure its a vtec....(in there twice for a reason)
anyone else like to add anything...

Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
previously modified, ie cold air intake, body kit, etc, this indicates that the car has prolly had the **** driven out of it, and wont be of the same quality of someone who drove it softer, but not being modded doesnt guarantee quality either
Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
its more fun, check this site for auto to manual trans swaps, and ull find out it happens a lot, if u have to have an automatic, so be it, but manual is more fun in a civic, plus better gas mileage
Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
fact that im from Canada make any diff?
so far the civic coup ex-l seems the best the si is nice but its not automatic

First off, in maple leaf country, the si is the us's ex.
isnt the Si-R the us's si? I'm not too familuar with your autos, eh?
Post up in the canada section.
And manual isnt for everyone. If you know that you dont like it, then dont get it. It does suck in traffic when your tired, and the gas milage is negligable.

Go to a Honda dealership and ask them these questions. Tell them that you are interested in buying a Civic in the near future. Test drive them and look at all the different models available.
Tell them what you're looking for, etc..

Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
^ thoes cars hardly have the jump on the manual 7th gens, although I rather have one, they are slightly faster and have good potential.
Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
Oh yeah, they don't necessarily have a stock performance gap over a manual D-series civic, but they have so much more potential.
Side note: Yeah, I feel smart not noticing that he said "D16" in that turbo thread. I feel like an idiot now.

Well then you may have gotten a lemon, I love my 7thgen. I take good care of it and it takes care of me. Aside from underpowered, I can't think of a thing I don't like about it.

Nothing works better than a Chris except a Honda.

Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
Canadian models are different from US models so find out what you're looking for and find out what the differences are between models. Also, just because you can, look up the Acura EL. It's a very nice car and is essentially the luxury version of the Civic.
Upper end models are VTEC. In the US they're EX on 2001+ and Si models. On 2006+ models they're all VTEC. I hope this answers some of your questions. Good luck finding a car. Keep us posted.

Re: want to buy a civic so clueless
Gotta say, love my civic too. 7th gen, and 2001, so the oldest of the 7th gens.
It is a little underpowered, and I know a minivan can beat me in a "race" but I didnt buy it to race. Civics are not fast. But I can get up to speed on the short interstate ramps no problem and that is all the power most people need or should need.
My ride is very smooth and the streets here are full of evil potholes.
The brakes feel just as responsive as our RX300 and the civic will stop easily.
The turning radius is better than most US vehicles but definately on the large side. Doesnt matter too much unless you keep making u-turns everywhere. I can see out the back no problem. I dont really know what you are referring to there. My AC has been nothing but heaven. I run it in the summer, I run it in the winter. I am a big guy, so I like the AC. Never ever ever had a problem. I never use the armrest as I have a manual so I always have my hand on the shifter basically. The seats are not comfy, but they arent uncomfortable. I have driven across the US from Colorado to Ontario, Canada quite a few times. THe only rattling I have heard is from the back area where the speakers are mounted they rattle a bit but I later found out I was missing a little plastic tab so it wasnt all the way secured. I replaced the stereo with a computer but I am very happy with the stock Pioneer speakers. And the paint is still very shiny 7 years later now. Just wax it a few times a year. And the japanese like the germans go for function over form. There are mechanics for a reason.
My car has been extremely reliable. Only thing is the SRS light recently came on, but I think that has to do with my seat.
Perhaps you did get a lemon, and that is why you have had such bad experiences.
Cons: underpowered, bumpy ride, brakes are not firm enough, steering wheel is too big, wide turning circle, poor back view, huge doors, bad quirky A/C, short unusable armrest, uncomfortable sitting position, squeaks and rattles, poor stereo, paint quality, car is hard to work on, way overpriced for what's offered.

A domestic will never be in the same class as a japanese or german import.
