motor flush with tranny fluid
motor flush with tranny fluid
i was in class today and my professor was talking about engine seize(not hydro lock).
he brought up the suggestion of letting tranny fluid sit in the combustion chamber to let it lubricate the walls and etc.
after letting it sit, slowly... turn over the crackshaft.. back and forth back and forth until it moves freely..
he also mentioned that tranny fluid is a great lubricant and cleaner because of all the minerals it carries.. because of that he flushes his motor with ATF fluids.
his process:
drain some of oil(half).
plug the drain plug.
poor in half ATF and let it the motor reach 30km.
drain the motor oil/atf and refill the motor with motor oil.
this allows the atf to clean the block and also the piston rings which could prevent oil from burning.
what do you guys think??
i find it this really interesting and i want to give it a try with my stock motor.
but very skeptical....

Hmm I don't know, I've never heard of anyone trying that before. What type of professor is he?

Your engine doesn't need to be flushed. Don't put tranny fluid in it!
If you want to clean your engine, the best thing for that is http://www.auto-rx.com/ . Nothing else!

It's an old school trick that DOES work. Transmission fluid is a detergent. I've never done it myself, but from I've been told you add 1/2 L on top of your oil run it hot and drain.
Re: motor flush with tranny fluid
I would never try it in a Honda but a cup of disel fuel in a ford does wonders. I was a little skepticle about it and had to do a rebuiled any way so I put in the cup ran it for about a half an hour and it cleaned up that engine looked great.

Re: motor flush with tranny fluid
yup, old school trick.
and this DOES work like you mentioned.. but its better you if you let the tranny fluid run in the engine for about a week or so then flush.
it is suggested that you put 1/3 or tranny fluid and 2/3 of you regular motor oil.
i would try this... but mine engine is fine thank you.
Re: motor flush with tranny fluid
I'm in a business where sometimes engines for sale get "stuck" while sitting up. I don't have this problem personally because I "smog" my engines down, but from talking with industry contacts and in dealing with other people's engines, I've found transmission fluid does a great job of unlocking engines, especially when they're stuck because of light rust around the rings.
However, by far the best solution to unsticking an engine is PBBlaster. If it's really stuck because of light rust, PBBlaster will get you back on the road quick. I say this as someone with 10 years of experience working with engines. Any parts store has PB Blaster in stock, and it has a lot of uses besides unsticking engines. I LOVE that stuff.
By the way, I would love to know what kind of scenario your professor envisioned causing that rust to occur. It's pretty rare!
I hope that helps you or someone in the future.
