Best exhaust and/or Intake?
Re: Best exhaust and/or Intake?
do i have to quote myself?
Theres plenty of things you can "change" engine wise instead of just bolting things on. Think about the different parts of an engine internally. Its really not that much thought into it. You can upgrade the valvetrain.. PnP the head...upgrade pistons, rods, work on the drivetrain...upgrade the fuel system (big role), work on the cooling system. Theres plenty of things u can do man..in which case after you did this, it would be smart to THEN add bolt ons. I think u should search..theres tons of threads about this..

lol k so ur basically saying rebuild my engine to have high compression rings, forged pistons, aluminum heads, **** like that? im sorry but im not gonna do that to a d16y8. I'd rather get a b16 or a k20 and then do that or maybe just call my friend at wyotec and have him get me a 2.0 block and just go from there?

RS*R Catback, RT Cat and AEM CAI, V2 is over rated since its not even a CAI on our cars
Im running Magnaflow catback, RT Cat, AEM CAI and it sounds great but i want the RS*R Catback.
Bolt Ons You could do on a d17a2.. if you really wanted to:
AEM CAI
HP Headers or DC Sport, i prefer HP over DC
Random Tech High Flow Cat
RS*R Cat Back
you know what, go turbo or get a B16A2 or even K20a2.. sh*t i shoulda done this

Thanks in advane for you input.

Re: Best exhaust and/or Intake?
When I say "Other things" I'm really talking about everything. When you talk to somebody about hooking up cars, and you say what's the first thing I should go for, most people say "get an intake and exhaust first...." When you get an intake and exhaust first, it allows you to get more air into and out of the engine making a little bit more power, as discussed previously in this thread. "Other things" that will benefit more from an after market intake and exhaust rather then a stock set would be things like: Engine management systems, porting/polishing the head, new valvetrain, cams, intake manifold, throttle body, there's a lot going on in an engine that can make more power along with using an exhaust and intake. The first example that popped into my head was a turbo kit. You're not gonig to run a turbo kit with a stock exhaust.....well you shouldn't be at least. When you have a turbo kit with a stock exhaust....you'll gain lets say (making up numbers here...) 50 horsepower over stock. A turbo kit with an after market exhaust you'll gain 58 horses over stock, as opposed to the aftermarket exhaust by itself with no turbo kit, you'll gain 6 horse. Make sense?
Nah nah, I completly agree with you in all respects to what your post....haha it's funny because I don't even think about the domestic market as a viable option for me at all! So that's why I excluded from my post, the benefits of intakes etc on domestics of random orientation. Heh, when I say ".....most cars don't etc......" I'm just talking about the imports....that's where it's at yo.
