Squeaking/hissing/whinning noise coming from engine.

I just had a sound system put in my 03 Civic SI Coupe. Ever since, there has been a strange whistling noise for the first 5 minuites I drive my car, what is this?

may not even be part of your sound system. What it could be is a timing belt

Actually, timing belts don't whistle. Its auto tensioned. Maybe you should spend a little more time reading than doling out advice when you have no idea what you're talking about.

The whistling is probably from road noise. Check out the ICE section for causes and fixes.

no my car had a high pitch noise coming and it was because it was a new timing belt and the humidity made it such an irritating squeal.

Then you didn't have it all the way on... I live in DC and I lived in Louisiana, two extremely humid places and have never had a new timing belt squeal. Installing a new stereo system is not going to cause the timing belt to squeal either....

Does the noise get louder as you accelerate or is it just a constant tone?
Could it possibly be coming from your front speakers and you just think it is the engine?
Did you have the stereo professionally installed? If so where?

Its a DISCUSSION FORUM!!!! Debating and discussing about MECHANICAL PROBLEMS is the whole point of this forum.

And you aren't a moderator or administrator, so don't think you're going to tell anyone what to do and they're going to listen.

Re: Squeaking/hissing/whinning noise coming from engine.

Calm down ladies. Alpha is on the right track. It's most likely coming from your speakers. i can't remember the whole explanation but it has to do with electrical interference. This is why you have to run your power cable and RCA cables on opposite sides of the car, as far away from each other as possible.

And why are you arguing anyway?? This thread is from August 6th and the original poster hasn't updated since.
