its alive!!

ok so as some of you may remember i was bombarding the fix it forum with question after question and finally i got my vic running but it still shoots way too much oil out of the valve cover. and if i leave the tube connected between the valve cover and intake, oil pools in the bottom of the intake mani

so heres my question now-
could this be caused be a bad pcv?
and does anyone have a pcv for our vics besides honda dealers cause theyre like 30 bucks for a damn pcv valve at the dealer

and i dont care about punctuation

Re: its alive!!

I didn't think that our vics had PCV's... I would look into why you have sooo much oil coming out of the valve cover.

Re: its alive!!

No, we don't have a PCV valve connected to the breather tube coming out of the VC. Ref the picture for where it is (labeled A). There shouldn't be oil coming out the breather tube. If you flip your VC over and look at the inside, there should be a baffle who's specific purpose is to prevent oil from getting splashed up and sucked in the intake mani. Its silver and make sure its there and doesn't have any holes, other than the factory ones. I'd snap a picture of it but my wife took the camera today. Its big and easy to find.

Dumb question, but have you changed the valve cover gasket and also made sure the VC bolts are tight? I'd get a new gasket, make sure the mating surface on the head is clean and dry, run a thin bead of RTV sealant around it, then put the VC back on and tighten it like you would torque down a cylinder head. (the order and staggering that is). Don't use gorilla power or the bolts will snap. Where is oil coming out of the VC?

Right. Which is why I posted a pic and said its not on the breather tube. It's here, labeled "A" in said pic. If you've already found it, take it off and clean it.

Is it only coming out of the breather tube? I'm gonna go outside and look at my car for a better idea of what's going on.

Re: its alive!!

OK cool, I know what we're dealing with now. To check the PCV valve we do this.

Breather tube is irrelevant here. Don't worry about the seal on it.

- Check the hose, make sure its not cracked and is otherwise in good shape.
- If that's good, start the car, let it warm up to normal operating temp, and then pinch that hose closed (in the middle) with a pair of pliers. If it makes a clicking sound - the ball valve settling back from not having pressure - then its good to go and not your problem.
- if it doesn't make the clicking noise, turn the car off, completely remove the hose, make sure its not clogged (compressed air or your lungs). If its clog-free, then the PCV valve is bad and you will need to replace it.

I don't know if you can clean them like the old ones by soaking them in gasoline and blowing them out, but it may be worth a shot.

If the PCV valve and hoses all check out fine, then we need to try something else.

Re: its alive!!

Pinch the hose going from the intake mani to the PCV valve, there on the right side of your intake mani.
