Re: Foos Comedy Special: So plastic can cut Aluminum
It was $334.70 shipped from Ebay. I bought This one (its a link). Not a bad deal. The guy hasn't told me if it comes with the Koyo cap or not yet, but it seemed like a good deal compared to everyone else's prices.

That is funny. I've poured so much time, energy and money into this car, if it isn't nasty, I honestly think it will break my heart! Also, I'll get to work on your sticker in PS this weekend. Its been a little crazy lately and I fly out to the states on Sunday so I'll have lots of time to work on it.

Re: UPDATE - Foos Comedy Special: Not so funny, blown HG
Yay. Fan****ingtastic. The head gasket is blown. The radiator is patched, with no leaks. It started up fine both times when I checked it. Took it down the road today and its hesistating, catching and going, hesitating and everything else. I'm so happy. So I'm going to go out, pull the head and change out the HG. I hope that's the only thing wrong with it. My wife doesn't remember when it started overheating, so there's no telling how long she drove it that way. I hope nothing is warped or anything that can happen when an overheated car is driven.

Well, the head is off. Plugs look OK, pistons look OK, so do the cylinder walls. No evidence of detonation or obvious warpage. There is evidence that the HG was leaking. I was able to clean off the the burnt gasket bits on top of the cylinders. Everything else looks fine, nice golden brown in the quench areas of the head and also the tops of the pistons. I'm going to go slap the new head gasket on and assemble everything. So for you folks who are curious, it took me four hours to take the head off and clean everything up. I took my time, so I probably could shave an hour off if I was movin' and groovin'.
Back in a couple hours after I put everything back together....

Re: UPDATE - Foos Comedy Special: Not so funny, blown HG
Since this thread has been so popular, I'll give another update. I know everyone has been waiting with baited breath to see what's going on with my car.
So. What we have now is a good news/bad news scenario.
Good News
1. The car is back together and I only ended up with one extra bolt. +1 for weight reduction.
2. The car starts, doesn't throw any CELs, and doesn't hesitate when idling.
3. The radiator still doesn't leak from JB Weld repair job.
4. All four cylinders are holding compression.
Bad News
1. Car acts like its out of timing when the accelerator is hit at a standstill. Slow throttle increase and its fine.
2. My knee dislocated last night when I turned to grab something. Bad knees are fun...so much for my trip to the states tomorrow.
So I think I'm ahead. Four pieces of good news to two pieces of bad news is a win in my book. I may be off a tooth on the cam gear because my marks rubbed off when I was putting it back together. This would explain the car's behavior. I'm going to check that tomorrow and if its off, it should be a pretty easy fix.
