HELP ! clutch problem turning to nightmare.
I will try to keep this short.
I noticed a couple of weeks ago that there was a strong odor coming from the engine compartment of my 2001 civic ex. Over the last week that odor has gotten worse, so I decided to drop by the dealer today. A mechanic took it for a spin and told me that I have about 30% of my lutch left (basically its finished). This is a 2001 civic with 13000km's ont (8500 miles). How could this be ? I am not a sunday driver but I don't race, I dont ride the clutch no burnouts, nothing. WTF ? I put 50,000km's on my 91 si , raced it twice a week for two years and I never changed the clutch. I have friends with Probes and Cavaliers that have never changed a clutch that fast. Anyways, they have my car and will be taking apart the tranny to see if there was any defect. If there wasnt I'm looking at an $800 clutch job on a six month old car.
I appreciate anyones input.

There's NO WAY you should have to put a new clutch in yet. Like I said in another thread, my dad's 1992 Dodge Stealth (Twin Turbo :-P) has over 175,000 mi and the original clutch! Although a friend of mine with a WRX got a new one after 1500 mi..... he drives like a *ing maniac!!! hehe

i put 26,000 more miles on the clutch in my 88 dodge omni that already had 60,000 on it and it was still decent when i was done, even though i learned on it and it took me a long time to get used to that clutch.

A little follow up;
I am picking up the car on Thursday, there was no defect on the clutch so I am stuck paying $850 for a new clutch on a 7 month old car. I tried to plead my case to Honda Canada to no avail, it fell on deaf ears. I never thought I would be dissappointed by a Honda. The worst part is that I am hesitant to drive the car when I get it back because at this rate I'll be changing the clutch every 7 months. I am going to try to get out of the lease and look at the Mazda Protege 5.
