Question new taillights problem

I'm just looking for some advice on a pair of new taillights I bought off ebay. I have a 2004 civic value...the taillights were supposed to be for 01-04. Well..I really don't know much, I had a friend come over to change them for me and we ran into a problem. The stock taillights only have three lights in them, the top and bottom are the same size and the middle is obviously a little smaller. These other taillights I got have 4 lights, an extra one on the side for a turn signal. Obviously I don't have the wiring for that. Also, instead of the top and bottom bulbs being the same size as in the stock ones, the bottom one is bigger. I guess my issue is how to get the different sized clips I'll need. The wiring won't be a problem, I just need to find something else that'll fit into those slots since it's different than what I have. I hope this makes some sort of sense..like I said I'm not real knowledgeable and just want some input.

Re: new taillights problem

Post some pics or a link to the tails you bought. That will give us a better idea of how to help. Do you have a coupe or a 4-door?

Re: new taillights problem

I have a coupe. It took me forever to post pictures cuz I've been working seven days a week but finally I have a free moment...

The top and bottom slots are obviously different sizes. The top is #7443 (which is the same as in my current taillights), but the bottom is #3156. The middle one is #921 but that one fits as well so it's not a problem. The other issue is the extra turn signal light which isn't included in the wiring of my car on the side there. So that one's only a problem because well, I just don't have it.

Re: new taillights problem

you can either wire up another bulb for the side signal, or send 'em back. i think you'll find most people on here will recommend keeping the stock 04 tails, but it's your car.

Re: new taillights problem

you do have a small parking light in your stock tails, it is way on the side of the car for the corner light. its not turn signal, just small parking light 194/168. the 3156 you dont have and the tails shouldve come with some sort of socket for that. cause your stock turn signal wont fit. and 7443 is a dual filament bulb, which i believe you also dont have. your stock is just 7440 which is a single filament. so i think to make these work, you need to find a 3156 socket maybe from auto parts store and wire that to your stock turn signal wiring. then goto honda and buy 7443 bulb socket and harness and wire that to park and turn wires. when you have it all right, you should have the top half of the ring as a park light and also the little corner one. and for signal the top and bottom bulb should blink (whole ring). good luck, looks like you got some work ahead of you but it will be nice when done.

Re: new taillights problem

I own an 05 LX coupe and ran into the same problem when I installed my taillights, I got worried to because of the different size plug holes. Had a real good friend of mine who works for a Honda dealership actually straight wire the bulbs that wouldn't fit to actually fit correctly. (as soon as I can I'll post a pic of how it looks)

If you're selling your stock 04 tails, I'll buy them.

Re: new taillights problem

sorry ignore my post lol i forgot about the brake lights. looks like 7443 is the tail/brake combo and bottom is the signal. if you wanted tho you could try and fit a dual filament bulb at the bottom so it keeps the whole ring on and then the botton flashes for signal and top is brake. idk seems like a stupid design.
