RPM's fall after shift in between shifts
RPM's fall after shift in between shifts
I just bought a 2001 Civic EX A/T with 91,000. I think it may be variable valve timing but I am not used to this type of engine as my last car was a 1994 3.1L V6 Beretta. After the shift into second gear from about 3200 RPM, the RPM's drop to about 2,800, but than drop lower to about 1700 about a second after the shift, and than continue to rise as I accelerate. This really only happens in slow-moderate acceleration because as long as the RPMS stay above 3,000 the do not fall in between shifts. Is this normal for this kind of car, and if so what is it that causes it?
Thanks guys, I look forward to learning more and more through the forums as I have just spent the past 2 hours looking through the forum and it is excellent.

Re: RPM's fall after shift in between shifts
After reading the online owners manual (since i did not get one with the car) I found the answer. In case any of you were wondering... here it is:
Your Honda’s transmission has four
forward speeds, and is electronically
controlled for smoother shifting. It
also has a ‘‘lock-up’’ torque converter
for better fuel economy. Youmay
feel what seems like another shift
when the converter locks.
