Dealership visit = new master cylinder
Dealership visit = new master cylinder
The purpose of this post is to inform others who may be experiencing the same issue. so for the last 2 weeks i've noticed that my clutch peddle was making a strange noise, in addition to a strange feeling when depressed. it felt as though i was crushing a tin can under my shoe (not harder to depress, just jittery) and a krinkle sound was coming from it as well. shifts were still smooth and performance was not affected. I made an appointment to get it looked at and took it in today. 1.5 hours later they told me they first tried lubricating it but it did not remedy the issue so they replaced the master cylinder under warranty. Clutch peddle feels brand new now with no issues.
...um.. if im not wrong, the master cylinder puts out the fluid to ur brakes and is the link between ur foot, the brake and ur brakes...so if your CLUTCH was feeling funny, how did that fix it. i have an automatic so maybe im missing out on something. i duno i dont get it.
Wrong!
Unfortunately, the two posts above are incorrect. On vehicles with a manual transmission, there is a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER. This is independent from the the brake master cylinder that you are referring to. The clutch master cylinder also uses brake fluid and when pressure is put on the clutch pedal, it moves the slave cylinder, and ultimately the clutch disc away from the flywheel. I have heard of the odd civic with this problem in the clutch master cylinder, but never in the brake master cylinder. Anyways, just wanted to set the record straight because the person who made the original post in this thread ws correct, the first two responses to it are incorrect. Glad to hear the issue was resolved for you though, and even better under warranty

^^^^Yep. Slave cylinder is attached to your transmission and its what engages and disengages the shift fork. Clutch master cylinder should be right near your clutch fluid reservoir.
The clutch master cylinders in our cars must be a weak point because mine has been squeeking for a year. The stealership says it needs to be changed but the service manager said that this is common and the noise doesn't indicate any problem.
Yes, it is a known issue (the sound). Some model years actually had service bulletins on them to replace the master cylinder. Sometimes just lubing the linkage can minimize the noise though. Never heard of it ever developing into a problem (other than noise).
