Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

My tranny is starting to slip in 2nd and 3rd gear. 1st gear is perfectly fine and after 3rd everything is fine. This is my second tranny, this has to be a recall because i'm not going to pay for another one. My car: 2002 Honda Civic A/T LX with only 60,000 miles

hmmm.. idk man i have 01 lx auto also with 89k miles on both engine and tranny and i've never abused my car. Only performance type mods i have are H and E. When driving it'll act normal but after a few mins it just revs as if it slipped into neutral. No grinding, no whining just slips and my last honda gave me 1kk miles.. Hmmm i working on solving it atm so i'll buzz in every now and then if i get any info... hang in there bud

Unhappy Re: Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

O1 Civic LX here... and the check engine light came on during a spring break trip to Phoenix... took it to the Honda of Mesa Dealership - ran diagnostic for free (thank you Honda of Mesa) and found out the the 2nd gear Clutch Face or plate is bad...
El Paso Honda - our home dealership wanted 3000 for a new transmission - according to them, that if you have this problem, Honda's Service Bulletin requires a new trans and a pcm flash -
Now, Im stuck between taking it to a 3rd party trans shop like Aamco or pulling a used one from a junk yard -
then have ELP Honda flush and fill the trans and flash the pcm...

Oh what to do? Anyone recommend transmission shops or parts online
and no the car is not modified

Re: Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

how do i know if the shop that rebuilt my tranny reflashed my PCM? and if they didnt what would my car be doing.

i was looking into TSB's and im getting a knocking sound from what i think is the tranny. when crusing at 35-50 it will shake, raddle and knock. pop it from D to D3 and it all stops.

also saw a TSB about a loose steering rack which kinda made sense since i can feel this in the wheel when i drive and it actually feels like its coming from the steering.

then i wonder if its a lost ball joint but when i jacked it a few weeks ago to rotate my tires everything seemed fine.

any imput?

Re: Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

it not necessarily the tranny just because it goes away when you downshift. could be any number of steering related problems. might even be bad motor or tranny mounts and shifting causes it to move around to a better spot.

Re: Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

yamy other 2003 civic, A/T has like 60k on it and the tranny is going BAD.

been doing some research on it and found that it seems to be that the 01 to 03 AT trannies are horrible. the 2nd and 3rd gear go bad FAST... the 04 and 05 are better built.

been googling and calling around for like 6 months cuz its pissing me off that a pretty new tranny is already dying...

and thats why i bought my other 2003 (my baby) and got it as a manual. no problems.... at all.. ever... lol

either swap it for a manual, or look for an 04 or 05 AT and swap it in. it fits and from the 4 guys i know who have done it, none have had issues.

Re: Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

this is true, but seems to get worse with every new model lol. i drove an 8thgen auto on test drive and right as i left the dealer the trans felt like it was gonna fall apart. i asked if it was normal for it to slip into gear and he said yes haha

04-05 auto trannies are direct fitment?
if my trannie fails should i get it rebuilt for 800-900 bucks or go with a new 04-05 trannie - how much do they cost anyways? btw, im an 01 at 58000 miles and my car slips if im going up a big *** hill

Re: Transmission slipping... WTF?!?!...

ya, they should be. its the same gen, same engine and everything... so... why not? lol

also, get a new one if u can afford it. its gonna be about 1,400 or maybe like 1200 if u know where to look, but it will last longer than a rebuilt one imho.

ur choice tho.

ya might be worth it since a rebuilt one will only be warrantied for 1 year
