cleaning vtec solenoid screen

I searched on the site but didn't come across anything. I'm not exactly positive what to look for, so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as to exactly where the vtec solenoid is and how to clean the screen?

eh, nevermind, pretty sure I found it, as long as it's the solenoid on the left side of the head in the back, with the blue wire. haha.

Yep, you found it. How did your screen look? When I cleaned mine it was pretty clean already, with 85k miles. My IACV and throttle body on the other hand were filthy.

I haven't even cleaned it yet...haha. It's freezing here and there are about 6 cars in my driveway in front of the garage and I don't feel like moving them.

I wanted to clean it because I took a trip to canada, and ever since I got back my car has been making a weird humming noise almost exactly at 2300 RPM and 2800 RPM. I drove through a TON of salt, I mean a ton. I should have taken pictures of my car when I got back. I have BLACK wheels, and you couldn't see one bit of black on them. they looked like they were painted white. I had to clean my entire engine bay because of the salt, but at least I have a sparkling engine bay now. haha. cleaning the IACV is next, but I figured if that was dirty it'd throw a CEL. I could definitely be wrong though.

oh and thanks for confirming that I found the right thing! are those three bolts 10mm or something?

Pretty sure they're 10mm, just like every other bolt under the hood.

Driving thru salt will not clog your VTEC screen, since only oil goes thru the screen. Now if you got salt in your oil, then you have more issues to worry about...lol.

Dirty IACV won't throw a code unless it's clogged completely. Cleaning IACV will help with any idle issues you have, but noise at 2300 and 2800 rpm is weird and not really an idle issue (like jumping idle, idle drop, etc.). Maybe your VTEC solenoid is sticking. When you pull off the solenoid, remove the 3 bolts holding the assembly together and push the valve (post coming out of the base piece). If it sticks you may want to replace it. Don't forget to put the little gasket back between the pieces when reassembling.
