need some help from the engine diagnostic gurus
ok here the deal
2001 civic ex auto 114000 miles
a couple months ago
I had an intermittent miss fire on the #1 cylinder at cold start up coed P0301
played around with the coil and plugs it went away
a couple weeks ago it started to miss under aceleration
(had this happen after we put in the new timing belt forgot to plug the crank sensor back in) sure enough it was giving a bad reading from the crank sensor
so I figured oh well I gus i am sol
went to the dealer and had them do a diagnostic check came back with a bad crank sensor (imagine that seeing how they can read the coed as I did)
I went ahead and had the change the sensor to the tune of 400 bucks
whala it runs fine for a day then back to the same old thing
I take it back they tell me it needs an ECU reprogram or update boot or something
no charge on this one
I get it back and whala it runs great for a day and a half this time.
now the skip is back throwing coeds with the CEL on
let it sit sunday get up to take it back in to the dealer the dam thing runs fine
I tell the dealer the deal he runs the car for awhile gets it to trip a coed
now he tells me he wants to change the main engine harness to the tune of
$ 1300 I laugh he dosent
sorry soo long on the post but anybody one here heard of anything like this before
I searched the site but verry little on this topic
any help or a TSB I can give them would be helpful they are lost
thanks fondahonda

Re: need some help from the engine diagnostic gurus
after a year of intermitten problems with this issue
I think I finaly fixed the problem.
I took all three sensor plug conections crank sentor cam sensor and the other one on that line
striped the wire from casing cleaned and added some contact grease to the terminal plugs
have been running it hard for several days with no issues
before you change your crank sensor P0335 code try this first
seems to be coming more problematic as the model ages

Re: need some help from the engine diagnostic gurus
So it was just a matter of bad contacts then? Wow, that's an irritatingly simple fix. I love the dealer - $1300 to change out the wiring harness. That's like an hour's worth of labor. Ridiculous.
