noise during acceleration and rough idle

noise during acceleration and rough idle I get a weird noise during acceleration. It sounds like something is leaking but cant find the source nor a stink underneath the hood or cabin. It sounds like this , shick shick shick and happens mostly during acceleration when the engine is cold. I tried higher grade fuel and used fuel injector cleaner none helped.
It also idles a little rough when cold. The car runs fine with no problems. ...except for the noise and do not see any decrease in performance or fuel efficiency.
do any one have any suggestions. its a honda civic 2001, with 1.7L SOHC I4. It has a manual transmission. did not notice any leaks anywhere. got 90,000. Did replace timing belt on it and used genuine honda belt.
it does it even when ac is off.
