Gas Mileage
Gas Mileage
sorry did a search and didnt find anything
I use to get rougly 330 miles to each tank. Now im getting about 275.What could it be?I've changed spark plugs, ignition coils, had a fuel system clean up,just had my head gasket replaced cause was blown and the head was milled also and oil changed...Still getting bad mileage...I cant get my air filter top off.The screws are stripped and just will not come off no matter how hard i try to pry it off...What about the filter thats in the glove box compartment? Please any help would be great...Thanks

What is your actual gas mileage? Have you calculated it or are you just going by when the gauge is on E? Gauges are notorious for being wrong. And going by when the light comes on is not accurate either. Get a calculator and just divide your mileage by how much gas you put in. Reset trip odometer and recalculate at the next fill-up. After about 3 fill-ups you should have a good average.
Any way, replaceing the air filter will definately help, cabin filter won't (although I recommend cleaning/replacing it too!). Get the top off the air filter box, use vice grips or pliers if you have to, just go to the dealership and get new replacement bolts first. Or this might be an excuse to get an intake...
Also, how is your tire pressure? With the temp dropping, the pressure drops and low pressure can kill gas mileage.
Have you adjusted your parking brake cable? Sometimes the cable can get tight and not fully release causing the rear drums to constantly be braking.
As far as intake cleaner, try the FP60. It's a little expensive but worth it. My mpg has dropped about 2 mpg since I ran out.

u can also use those screw out bits to take off stripped bolts. and air filter will cause 15% drop if it is clogged up bad. if ur exaust is blocked it will cause engine to run inefficient or u may be running rich. do u notice sluggishnes in its response...then u may be running rich in fuel.
but i would do the filter replacement first and fore most before i look at anything else.

I'm not sure where you're living at, but weather conditions can play a big role as someone above said. I usually get about 330 a tank, and I fill up before the light comes on, and I have been getting like 300 this winter. Also, you should definitely figure out that air filter situation.
I can't wait to take the steelies back off.
