viper 791xv alarm problem
viper 791xv alarm problem
i had circuit city install a viper remote state alarm (model 791xv or something) and everything went fine. after 3 months, whenever i press the lock or unlock botton on the remote, my parking lights no longer light up. the doors still lock and respond mechanically but when my alarm sounds or chirps, the lights do not flash or light up at all. which means a thief can break into my car and it will sound the alarm, but the lights wont be flashing.
any idea what could be the problem?

Hey whats up man sorry for the delayed post.
It's a real easy problem to troubleshoot if you are feeling adventurous and want to learn a thing or two about your car's wiring.
Take of the two dash pieces located underneath the steering wheel. One comes off with ***** and one has a **** with clips. After you take those off, peek your head towards the drivers kick panel and locate a green plug, it should be hanging loose not plugged into anything if you don't have a factory alarm system. That is you factory alarm harness. It pretty much has most of the wires that you should tap into for an aftermarket alarm system. From your Viper alarm there should be a solid WHITE wire connected to a wire within that green plug, most likely a solid BLUE wire. Now if it was installed at Circuit City, it might have been a bad connection to that wire, so check that and make sure nothing came undone and that the WHITE wire is making good contact with the BLUE wire.
Now, that wire from Viper is set from the factory at positive polarity, and the BLUE wire is a negative trigger wire, which means that it rests at 12V and needs a ground to switch the parking lights on. If the installer connected the WHITE wire to the BLUE wire without switching the polarity from postive to negative on the alarm brain, then that is no bueno. And means there might be a broken fuse somewhere either on the WHITE wire or at the fusebox. But most likely that isn't the case, and it just might be a loose/bad connection.
There is also a RED/BLACK Stripe wire behind the fusebox that they could have tapped into for the WHITE wire. If that is the case, then check that connection.
If you have done all of this, and the parking lights still don't flash, then you might have accidentally turned off that feature through one of the programming features, which requires you to look in the manual to see how to turn it back on.
If anything, just take it back to Circuit City where you had it installed, they should offer you some kind of warranty on their work, and let them fiddle with it. Otherwise if you go and try to fix it and mess something up, nothing would be covered.
Good Luck
